Episode 30: The Girl At Sea and the Angel Tower – Part 1
The sky was bright yellow and the sunset was coming. Men in togas were holding big barrels of water. There were carriages roaming down the road. There was a large tower-like figure that rose up all the way into the sky until it was no longer visible. Matt, Danny, and Yessenia were sitting on top of an old building. At the time, no one cared if their property was being invaded. People were trustful.
Matt looked up into the sky and he sniffed the air. “Hm… the atmosphere feels so nice here.”
“Of course. We’re in a time warp of MANY years ago. More than a millennium, more than hundreds and thousands of millenniums. I’m surprised Olympia could comprehend with almost modern objects.” Yessenia imagined.
Matt stood up, “Yeah.” He turned his head eagerly, “The other day, Shirley told me she was talking to Santi on the phone. I heard her conversation and I was still able to find out what she was talking to him about.”
“So, what were they saying?”
“Well, Eidothea is another person who has special powers in our school. She said Santi didn’t want to tell because it may mess up the process of stages. I don’t think Santi trusts neither me nor Shirley…”
“Trust, hm?” Yessenia turned away and she faced the floor beneath her. Danny was busy licking an ice cream so he was not paying attention. She changed the tone of her voice into a slightly more calm voice, “Well, we cannot ask Eidothea here in Olympia. She won’t know who the person may be. We can always dig out some information from her and we could find out something from it.”
Matt placed his right hand over his forehead to see through the sunny field, “So where is she? Ah, wait. Maybe that Hephaestus guy can tell us where. He should be at the same spot as always.”
Yessenia murmured to herself, “Always treating him like any other person instead of a God…”
~~~
At the blacksmith area, Matt ran up to Hephaestus. Danny followed Matt and waited right behind him. Matt poked Hephaestus, “Hey you!” In surprise, Hephaestus blasted flames while he turned around. Matt coughed from the flames as it was like simple dust to him. However, Danny ran in circles, running around to look for water. While a bunch of men nearby were getting water for Danny, Matt disregarded him and said to Hephaestus, “Do you know where Eidothea is?”
“Goodness, young child, you astonished me. I cannot say I have. You seem to come once every few years yet you do not age at all.”
Matt turned to Yessenia, “Eheh… Every dream we get about Olympia, its world ages a few years but we don’t.”
Yessenia said quietly, “Idiot.”
Matt said to Hephaestus, “Well thanks for nothing, geez.” He walked away, “Come on, let’s go.” Danny was a crisp, but he survived. Yessenia followed along.
Down the road, Yessenia froze. Her iris looked as if it shrunk once she started shaking in fear. Danny looked up in her eyes, “Are you okay?”
Yessenia quickly searched the area around her, “Is there a lake closest from here?”
Danny said stupidly, “Why?”
“Hurry! We need to move on!”
Matt pointed behind them, “We passed it a little. It’s nearby the blacksmith. What’s wrong?”
Yessenia explained to them, “This is where Danny’s stage comes in. We have no time left!”
Danny swayed his head from left to right constantly, “What, what? I don’t get it! What’s going on?”
Matt answered Yessenia, “There’s a lake. It must be very bad if she’s surprised this much. Let’s go!”
~~~
At the lake, Matt, Danny, and Yessenia saw Eidothea heading for the center. Her body was slowly going beneath the water’s surface. Matt said in surprise, “What?! Is she trying to suicide?!”
Danny closed his eyes and he knelt down, feeling frightened. Yessenia called out for Eidothea but she could not listen now. Her whole body was in the water. Suddenly, there was a splash. Danny screamed, “No!!!” He opened up his hand and his palm was shining. The ground beneath the water began to rise to create a hill.
Eidothea was on the ground, coughing. Matt and Yessenia went for Eidothea. Matt said in a panic, “Eidothea, Eidothea! Are you okay?”
The girl frowned. She said slowly, “Ow… what happened just now?”
Yessenia noticed that Eidothea was clenching onto something. She opened up the fist, revealing a shiny reddish stone. “What is this, if I may ask?”
Eidothea’s eyes widened. She was surprised to see such a thing on her fist, “H-Huh?! Oh no! Why did I do this?”
Danny kicked the girl’s leg softly, “You tell us! You were going to suicide!”
Yessenia was surprised to see Danny’s bad manners. She punched him on the arm. Matt knelt down to look at the stone which was now rolling on the floor, “Hm… I’ve never seen this before. What is it?”
The girl took the stone and stood up, “It’s a sacred holy stone that shall never be taken from the altar of the Angel Tower. When the stone is taken off, the tower is given an hour before demons start to spread throughout Olympia. I must hurry back!”
Yessenia took a look at her cellphone, “And how long was it since you took it?”
The girl felt her forehead, “I… don’t remember. It feels like something took over my body…”
Matt and Yessenia became shocked at what the girl said. Danny, being unaware with what is going on, scratched his head and asked, “How can something take over your mind? That’s stupid.”
Matt remembered the tower he saw from earlier when he sat with Danny and Yessenia on top of a building, “You mean that endless tower is where you took the stone? Monsters should be coming out by now if you took the time to walk all the way down!”
Yessenia added, “Furthermore, is there any way to stop this?”
“Yes. We have to go up the tower and put the stone back as soon as possible before even more come out. We should head there now!”
The four of them set of towards the tower where the shiny reddish stone was meant to be placed at.
~~~
At the bottom of the tower, the group of four took a look around. The building was old. The windows had no glass and the door was made of stone. There was some sort of aura that was felt within the tower. The feeling was powerful. Matt examined the windows, “These windows have no glass on them…”
Eidothea nodded, “Glass?”
Yessenia interrupted them, “UH, anyways, is it alright for us to barge in and start heading up the tower?”
“No it is not, but with my consent, you can.” She knelt down and clapped her hands together. She began to mumble words that none of the other three could understand.
Matt became impatient, “Ergh… come on, we’re not here to pray! Hurry, hurry!”
Yessenia punched him on the arm and Danny was confused, “How come we’re not going in?”
Eidothea stood up, ignoring the fact that Matt and Danny were impatient, “We are ready to go in. This way.” The stone door opened on its own.
~~~
Matt looked up towards the top, “I can barely see anything.”
Yessenia placed her hand on her forehead to see easily, “And it’s very hollow. How far up is it?”
Eidothea took a step on the stairs, “This is the first floor.” She pointed towards one area of the stairs, “That marks the second floor. This whole tower is 100 floors long, but be warned that this tower is not as short as it seems.”
Danny said sadly, “100 already sounds bad!”
Eidothea suddenly became shocked. The reddish stone began to vibrate. “This feeling… there are people up ahead, and things don’t look so well for them! Hurry, let’s go up as fast as we can!”
The four of them began running up the stairs. Danny was slowly being left behind but he told the group to go on. By the 27th floor, they could start hearing voices and sounds from three floors away. The group became silent in order to sneak up to the top without any interruption until they became really close to the noise. There was a faint clanking sound that came from above. It quickly got louder and the object was finally seen. A pair of glasses clashed onto the bars next to Matt and it bounced over onto the floor. Matt knelt down and picked up the pair of broken glasses, “It must have broken into two when it hit the bars!”
Yessenia ran back down to Matt and she examined the glasses carefully, “This looks like… Santi’s glasses.”
Danny swayed left to right in a panic. He screamed, “No!! That can only mean one thing! Don’t worry Santi, I’m comin’ to get you!” He hurriedly ran up ahead.
Eidothea had her arm reaching out for Danny but it was too late. “No wait, you’ll cause a disturbance!”
Matt kept the glasses in his pocket and he went with Yessenia up ahead. Eidothea slowly followed them. By the time they got to the 29th floor, a few strange looking monsters appeared before them. Matt took a step back and he covered his face, “Bleh! What is that?!”
Eidothea clenched her fists in fear, “They’re Digicells!” Yessenia became aware of what Eidothea just said. Eidothea continued, “Digicells are monsters that appear in this world and if it bites you, you’ll slowly disappear from this world! They were researched not too long ago.”
Danny opened his palms and the ground level rose. The monsters rolled back down as if they were rolling from a hill. Matt stood in front of Danny, “Hey, don’t go overboard! If the ground bends anymore, you’ll break it and we’ll never be able to reach the top.”
Danny said angrily, “I don’t care! Our friend is hurt!” He pushed Matt away as he followed the monsters, continuing to raise the ground level. Matt was on the floor, watching Danny’s actions suddenly change from the fear he always had into something of the complete opposite.
Yessenia clenched her teeth, “Argh, that idiot! Matt, you help Eidothea up this floor. I’ll run on ahead and help him.” She jumped over the hells and followed Danny up to the next floor.
Matt held Eidothea’s left arm, “Let’s go. We can’t just stay here.” Eidothea nodded but she looked nervous.
~~~
On the 30th floor, Yessenia slashed away all of the Digicells. She knelt down before Santi and looked around his bleeding areas. Matt eventually arrived with Eidothea. Santi said with pain, “Oh…, you’re all here. Shirley is… up…” He began vanishing slowly.
Eidothea exclaimed, “Oh no! This is what I was talking about. They disappear from this world!” Matt felt confident with what was going to happen next. He predicted what would usually happen if Santi was vanishing from the pain. He held onto Santi’s arm as they both vanished together. “They’re both gone?! This is terrible!” Eidothea frowned.
A few seconds later, Matt reappeared with Santi’s cellphone, “Finally!”
Eidothea quickly clapped her hands together with joy. Yessenia sighed, “Santi couldn’t reverse time because he was too weak. And now he is replaced with some clumsy guy. Alright Matt, now that you can finally use your fire powers in Olympia again, I say we should hurry up ahead because Danny just ran off. He also mentioned Shirley so we must go catch up and find them!”
Matt nodded, “Of course!” The group of three ran up ahead a few more floors.
~~~
At floor 57, the group saw Danny and Shirley together. Danny was kneeling down in pain and Shirley was on the floor, covered with scratch marks. Matt took a look around the room first, “What happened here? There’s no sign of these weird monsters…”
Yessenia sat down to refresh Shirley’s pains, “You’ll be okay. Please tell us what happened.”
Shirley coughed, “Ack… uh… big monster… look out…” Shirley’s arm began to fall back to the floor as she started to vanish.
Eidothea frowned, “Not you too…”
Matt ran up ahead, “Argh, we can’t let this happen. Come on!” Danny nodded and Yessenia only stood there. Matt was about to move on but he only heard one footstep which was Danny’s. He turned around and noticed that Yessenia did not move. “What are you doing?! Let’s go, we have to put that stone back on the altar thing!”
Yessenia stood up and she faced the floor. Her hair covered her mysterious eyes. “Just what are you?”
Eidothea noticed that Yessenia was facing her. “H-Huh? Me? What do you mean?”
Yessenia quickly faced Eidothea with an annoyed expression, “Why won’t you tell us already?!! Your true self, show it to us!”
Matt simultaneously looked up at the next floor, then back at Yessenia, “What are you saying? Hurry up!”
Yessenia explained all of her thoughts, “How did you see Santi and Shirley vanish? Actually, how do you even see ME? The three of us didn’t go through any stages in Olympia yet, so no one from this world could see us!” Eidothea gave a frozen expression. The group of four became speechless… What was she, really?
