Website 18.1, September 28, 2013

Today, I am featuring Website Version 18.1! It corresponds to October 2009.
Hey y'all. I went on a short hiatus but I'm going to have to explain that on my next post. Lots of things (good things, don't worry) happened and I got way too occupied with stuff. But anyway, as said though, the next episodes are posted up! Don't worry, I'll make sure to update this Saturday's.

"The top has tabs for you to go through. The episode list, character list, etc.

My name is Matthew Tran and this is a story titled 'Fires of the Sky'. This was made out of boredom so I don't expect any grammar significance until later in episode 260+.

This story is about a boy named Matt who enters his first day of high school. However, a commotion occurs and Matt decides to check it out only to find that his friend is in danger. In an attempt to save his friend from the flames, Matt trips on a puddle of oil. Unfortunately, he receives a slight concussion. As Matt wakes up, he speaks of the flames but his friends say none of that happened. As time goes on, Matt will experience his own powers, along with new friends who will have the same problem. What will Matt have to do?"

This week's updates include:
- I added episodes 265 and 266. The 'Fires of the Sky' tab on top has episodes 265 and 266 if you cannot find it.
- Be on the lookout for new updates. I will post them along the week.
- Base functions and character updates will be more prominent as the weeks go by. Yay!

Note: Please tell me any errors that you find! It would be appreciated. I will fix them.

Episode 266 - Phoenix becomes a new Student

Recently on Fires of the sky, the main group who had participated in the Elemental Challenges has finally returned to Arkon’s Magic! But… to the rest of the students’ surprise, several students have not appeared in the group, and they knew that something tragic must have happened to them all. As a vow, Matt decides it is best for them to do their own thing, because messing around all throughout the first two years did nothing but cause them to lose more friends in a very traumatic way. One thing to note now is that… after 365 days, things have changed. Almost every student had to separate and disconnect with each other due to self-anger and terrible memories of the first two years. We will have to see what is up by reading onward to Fires of the Sky – Junior Year!
Episode 266 – Phoenix becomes a New Student

            “Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!! MAAAATT!!!” a high-pitched voice called from outside the school. The annoying voice got louder as he came closer.
            He stopped for a second to grasp in his sight of Matt after so long. This boy was a little taller than Matt, probably around 5’7. He wore a collared shirt with a tie, not really something you would wear to a Californian high school. His hair was also of odd color, maybe yellow, or red. Something like that. He suddenly tripped.
            Matt watched him. “Damn it. He’s back.”
 ~~~
            Shirley, Alex, and Winny were sitting in the activities office. Shirley sat on the table while trying to straighten her hair out. Winny was on her phone while Alex was scuffling against his hair, panicking about the situation that has been going on lately.
            “Let me get this straight,” Shirley said as she chuckled at her terrible pun while she continued to straighten her hair, “Matt beat up all of the East Coasters and Juliet and West told him that the two of them were being threatened?”
            “Yeah,” Alex nodded. “Apparently, someone from the government sent the East Coasters to pretend to be Mountain View students. While they were there, they found out that the five remaining students there who went to the Elemental Challenges had at least some kind of connection to El Monte. In order to hide their secret plan to sneak up on us, they had to have a sixth person: Kelvin.”
            Winny yawned. Shirley asked him in return, “I don’t get it. Why couldn’t the person from the government ask someone from California to you know, infiltrate? Why waste so much time having someone from the East Coast do all the work?”
            “That’s the confusing part. If they were trying to be discreet, I think that would have been going a bit too far.”
            “The person from the government was not born on Earth,” Winny said suddenly. Shirley and Alex quickly gleamed eyes at her.
            “How do you know that?!” Shirley said in awe.
            “Easy. My sister told me a few things about the Elemental government. Not everyone there is born on Earth. Assuming that the government still has four stations, someone in the government was chosen at random to take on this quest to find information about Earth, or moreover, El Monte. This person must have been from another dimension who has no prior knowledge of Earth, so he had to find the first group of students that he stumbled upon – offering them a governmental position if they did what he asked.”
            “Then why can’t someone from the government who was born on Earth be chosen to do this quest? That would have been smarter,” Alex corrected.
            “That is not the government to decide. Think of this as a wanted poster on a billboard. The government has its own group that is given a board of requests and any one of them can choose any quest in order to gain money, fame, and restore order.”
            Shirley sighed. “Phew, so we can safely assume this guy has no idea who we are, nor does he have a specific grudge against us.”
            “Exactly. There is nothing to worry about now that Matt has defeated the East Coasters, at least for now.”
            Alex began to cry. “There will be more?!”
            Winny stood up from her chair. “Yes. I am getting a little hungry now, so I will get some lunch.” She headed for the door as she turned around, “By the way, let Matt know that an old friend of his is back – for good.”
            Alex and Shirley looked at each other in confusion.
From a further distance, they could hear the activities director yell, “What the hell is that kid doing in this room?!” which made Alex fall off his chair and scram like a mouse.
 ~~~
            The boy in front of school cried as he stood back up. Tears ran down both eyes and transparent snot dripped from his right nose. Matt belched a little from what he was looking at.
            “The, the floor! It’s so mean to humans!”
            “Well, I mean… you were always flying before, Nix,” Matt said to the human figure who looked nothing like a bird now.
            “Sh, sh! You have to call me Phoenix. And guess what!” He flapped his arms outward, “I’m gonna attend El Monte High School with you!!!” His fingers lunged against the gated fence next to him which must have stung for a second. He began to cry again.
            Matt covered his face in shame. “You don’t just flap your arms around like they’re wings anymore, Nix.”
            “The fence, the fence is so mean to me!!!”
            Nix suddenly hugged Matt, “I’m finally becoming a grown man and it’s thanks to you!” He squealed. “Your growing strength and my time to grow into puberty helped me turn into a human, if you’ve forgotten.”
            “Nope, I remember,” Matt said bluntly. “It was freaky.”
            “Aw, just ‘freaky’? I thought you’d be frightened!”
            “I probably was.”
            “Listen, you should show more spirit! Well, that’s funny to say because I’m your spirit, hehe! But for now, I get to tell people you’re my bestest friend in the whole wide world!! Bye Matty, I’m leaving to tell the others!”
            Matt sighed. “Okay… Have fun.”
 ~~~
             At the bleachers where the rally used to take place in, Lisa sat down with Julie to watch Jen and Jaime practice running at the track field. It was almost sunset a bit early due to it being October, the month in which nightfall comes in the earliest at around 4:45 PM.
            They have been sitting there, watching and gossiping for the past two hours and many students who loitered all around campus figured it was time to go before it got too dark. Some of the runners had already left and only Jen and Jaime remained. By this time, their nonstop running turned into a break.
            Jen knelt down on the grass, breathing heavily for air. Jaime was not as tired, but he did sit down to relax.
            “How are you still okay?” Jen asked him. She was not very close to him, but knowing that he was Matt’s friend, she respected him.
            “I practiced all year.”
            “It only took you a year?? I’ve practiced for many years and I get tired before you do…”
            “So what?” Jaime chuckled. “You can beat almost all the girls in our school at running. That’s something.”
            “But… what’s that going to do?”
            Jaime began to realize that Jen was talking about more than just human capabilities. She was talking about elemental power and its advantage against others, which she did not have.
            “You don’t need powers to be better than others. I’ve been practicing how to get stronger in my own way. Even if I have powers, I don’t practice with it. I practice with physical strength.”
            “Why don’t you use your powers to train yourself?”
            “Because, power doesn’t come from the advantageous. It comes from what we are born with – that is the ability to become physically stronger at our own will.”
            “But I’m not physically strong.”
            “You can train to be. But hey, if you really feel that way, I think you’re mentally strong. I heard your name on the Top 10 GPA.”
            “Oh, I guess so…”
            “How about this. What is something that you can do, that others can’t?”
            Jen thought about it carefully. Running and singing were out of the picture. Even if she was five-star at these, others were just as good. And then, she thought about her hobby to read.
            “Prophecies, endings, fate…” she murmured to herself.
            “What was that?” Jaime felt confused.
            “The books. There is something about certain books that only I can read.”
            Phoenix ran over and tripped on his shoe laces. He began to cry with dirt plastered all over his face from the track field. Jen and Jaime headed over to him as soon as possible.
            Jaime examined Phoenix’s hair color. “This is kind of weird.”
            “I’ll bet,” Jen giggled. “He’s kind of cute.”
            “M-Me?! I’m a bird!”
            “Wait a minute. I recognize that whiny voice anywhere,” Jaime began to think about Nix. “What’s going on?!”
            “It’s me, Nix!! Remember?! Hehe!”
            Jen fell over on her bottom. “W-What in the world?”
            Phoenix turned into his usual little bird form, “Don’t worry. I didn’t lose my cuter form! I just wanted to practice walking around like a human because I’m gonna attend this high school with you guys. I have nothing else to do. And besides, whenever you guys are in danger, I’ll be one step away – literally, because I have feet now!”
            Jen hugged him up to her chest and Nix was blushing.
            “Oh, you’re the cutest thing eeeverrrr!~” Jen squealed.
            Matt appeared from near the bleachers. Julie and Lisa watched the four students from afar.
            “What are they talking about, I wonder?” Lisa asked, dumbfounded.
            “Oh, probably nothing important,” Julie lied in a very calm manner.
            Jen became silent. She frowned again. Again, Jaime noticed her change in expression.
            “Nix, it’s time to go home. The bus is coming.”
            “Awwr… I wanted to play with Jen and Jaime some more.”
            Nix jumped into Matt’s arms. Matt glanced over at Jen and Jaime, but only slightly. Jaime waved at him.
            “See ya later, Matt.”
            “You too,” he then turned to Jen instead, “and you should go home before it gets dark. It could get more dangerous around here.”
            Jen sighed. “Okay… I’ll go tell Lisa that we’re going to split too.”
            As Matt walked away, Jaime said to Jen, “What was that all about?”
            “He hasn’t been the same. How long have you two not talked?”
            “Probably since four months ago. Even then, he barely talked much but I didn’t want to get into his personal life.”
            “Oh… Okay. Well, it was nice meeting you, Jaime,” she giggled.
            “No problem!” Jaime said when Jen began to walk off. “Oh and, Jen,” he added, “just because you don’t have powers, doesn’t mean you can’t protect yourself. There are two other ways: take advantage of your mental ability and use it to protect others, or you can also gain physical strength on your own.”
            “On my… own?” Jen wondered what he meant. She then thought about something interesting with Kalpesh. “Hey, you’re right! Thank you so much,” she said as she gave him a polite bow before completely leaving.
 ~~~
            Almost an hour later, Jen had arrived at Kalpesh’s house with a ride from Lisa and her parents. Lisa had to wait outside for a small while.
            Jen walked into the motel parking lot. It was kind of creepy at night with the neighborhood empty. They were all hiding in their homes.
            “Hello?” Jen called while ringing the doorbell. A human figure appeared with a chainsaw and a mask as Jen screamed from the tip of her lungs. “EEEYAHHHH!”
            The boy removed the mask and out came Kalpesh. “Hey, keep it down. Our neighbors are going to complain!”
            “Oh… um,” Jen said awkwardly, having been reminded of her burden and cowardice because of her scream, “I was wondering if you could help me.”
            “Did Stan make you go on another stupid training world again or…?”
            “No, no! Hehe. Not this time,” she thought carefully, “I was wondering if you could make me a weapon with your technological thingies.”
            “They’re not thingies, Jen! And I can’t just make some weapon without any material.”
            “Are you sure? You were able to make chemicals explode. I need a threatening weapon like that in order to protect myself.”
            “You want me to make you some explosives?”
            “Hrm, now that I think about it, it does seem kind of awkward. Hey, how about a real life weapon? You know, like a sword.”
            Kalpesh began laughing. “You? With a sword??”
            “This is not funny, Kalpesh!” she pouted with her hands on her hips. “Matt told me to be careful at night and stuff, so I need something that is reasonably good – like a switchblade. My mom would never buy me one of those. She says pepper spray is all I need.”
            Kalpesh shrugged. “Switchblades are okay,” he then thought about it. What about longer-range combat? He began asking himself a few more questions to find out the best way for Jen to protect herself. “How about a bigger weapon, but safe to put in your backpack?”
            Jen shook her head. “That sounds nice, but what kind of weapon would that be?”
            “I’ll give it to you tomorrow at school or in two days, depending. I’m gonna need to have a word with Joey.”
            “Okay, but good luck. He’s been chasing after you ever since that chemistry incident.”
            “Heh, I know…”
            “Well, thanks, Kalpesh! I’ll see you tomorrow,” Jen smiled as she waved. Lisa was still waiting for her, tapping her foot.
 ~~~
            Even at 6 PM in the night, the guidance office was closing. The counselor said kindly to Winny, “I will have to have a word with your parents tomorrow about this decision. There will be several procedures, but it will work out. It’s one hour after closing time and I have to go. Have a nice night, sweetie.”
            Winny tried to smile. “Thank you, miss. I will see you tomorrow then.” Winny turned around and a taller boy in a silhouette walked next to her.
            “Ready to go?”
            “Yes, Timothy,” she softly responded.
- Preview to the next episode! -
Matt: On the next episode of Fires of the Sky…
Jen: Oh, what a beautiful weapon! So like, how do I use it?
Kalpesh: What? You don’t know how? Well, I kind of don’t but I did lots of research while trying to make it.
Jen: Hm… Well while I practice, I also have to make time for running.
Jaime: I’m still up for running if you want to go.
Kalpesh: But she needs to practice with her weapon!
Jaime: In the real world, it would be quite frightening to see a woman with such a weapon.
Kalpesh: H-How dare you!
Stan: See, Kalpesh? Even Jaime disagrees with him.
Kalpesh: You don’t even talk to him that much!
Matt: Put that weapon down! Next time on episode 267, Jen Learns How to Play with Steel!
Phoenix: Is there a new world coming up?!
Episode 265 – Mountain View and the East Coasters
            Let’s think back to the rally for a second, in case you’re wondering. What exactly happened and what were Yessenia and Matt talking about?
            One day, Matt had wandered off to a new world on his own in order to keep his mind off of what happened at the end of his sophomore year. This world that he wandered off to was something Jen had suggested they both go to, together. Matt did not want her to get into danger, so he went without her knowing. She told him the book’s ending: “it does not end here, whatsoever.”
            When Matt found an El Monte book in the strange new world, he knew exactly what Jen’s last quote from the book meant. In the new world, they see El Monte as a fictional novel. But in El Monte, it is as real as it gets. The book’s ending states that El Monte will continue to stay in turmoil, but it never mentions how long. In this deep realization, Matt had to talk with Yessenia about this issue, and together, they formed a plan that manipulated the novel’s ending.
            The novel states that there is just one enemy who appears in El Monte High School – that is Kelvin. A fake decoy sparks out of the school and two boys must follow it. That is how the book went. However, only about five students remained at the field in the novel, so Yessenia decided it is better to have more than that in order to defeat Kelvin by a landslide. Now, they have Kelvin in custody. Well, they threw him in the janitor’s room, the same room when Shirley and Danny were locked inside way back in freshman year.
            It was strange. Only Amy was able to recognize this student.
 ~~~
            “I-I swear! I was only told to attack El Monte. I have no idea why, but they forced me!” Kelvin said with a rope tied to his arms.
            Yessenia, Alex, Amy, and Matt did the honors to stay and interrogate him. Sharon decided to restore every student’s mind. They all clearly had the explosion in mind, but they were confused at why everybody was still okay. The only broken machine now was the crane.
            “Who is they?” Alex questioned him.
            “I don’t know! They said they came from the East Coast and are now attending some school that I forgot the name of.”
            Alex took a step forward. “I bet you know!”
            “I said I don’t know!!”
            Amy glared into his eyes. “He’s telling the truth,” she said to Yessenia and Alex.
            “How do you know that?” Alex said nicely. He knew Amy was the kindest girl in El Monte, so he had to ask as nicely as he could which kindness wasn’t really his forte.
            “I could feel the same honesty from years ago – in middle school,” She knelt down and said, “Kelvin, you used to go to the same middle school as I did, Kranz. You were Santiago’s best friend, right?”
            Matt’s ears suddenly propped.
            “I was… but then we slowly stopped chatting on the internet in high school, and before you know it, he was completely gone. Even his parents are gone.”
            Matt clenched his teeth.
            Yessenia purposely stood in front of Matt. “So, did you see their faces? The ones from the East Coast.”
            “No, I haven’t. And even if you find out who they are, what are you going to do, fight them? They’re really strong, I tell you! They beat all my friends in an instant and they barely moved their feet.”
            “What school do you go to now?” Amy asked him.
            “Mountain View.”
            Alex grabbed him by the collar aggressively, but happily. “Wait, wait!” Kelvin squealed as Alex went on, “You must know Romeo! Is he in school?!”
            “He hasn’t been back in a while! You’re choking me!”
            Alex threw him onto the ground. “Oh…” He remembered when Colonel Artemis apparently sent a few students to the Elemental Government. If Romeo is not back, then the rest of them aren’t. At this point, these students have most likely been executed by the government…
            “From what I could remember,” Yessenia began counting her fingers, “there was Juliet, West, Keith, that damn Dracula guy, …and Johnny.”
            “Oh! They’re all my friends, the ones who got beat by the East Coasters!”
            Yessenia shook her head. “Now you are talking. Alright, we may need to have a word with them. After all, they gave us no harm during the challenges, at least not that much,” she thought of Dracula who kept picking on her in the beginning of the Elemental Challenges. “Matt, you live nearby Mountain View, yes?”
            Matt was supposed to go to Mountain View due to proximity, but he wanted to stay with his middle school Columbian friends by staying in El Monte high school, which was Columbia’s transferring school.
            “Yeah,” he said.
            “Good. Got an extra fifty cents? You are going to take him home.”
            Matt snickered.
            “You’re not gonna hurt me?” Kelvin said happily.
            Alex sighed. “Nope. For some reason, I can sense that you’re not lying. There is a calm essense in your body that I can sense but I can’t seem to figure out why.”
            Amy giggled. “Don’t worry, guys. Kelvin was a nice kid in middle school. He always gave me extra food.”
            “Did you have a crush on her??” Alex teased as Kelvin became angry.
            Yessenia pushed Kelvin to Matt, releasing the ropes. In a trustful manner, Kelvin did nothing and decided to follow Matt back to Mountain View by going on a bus.
 ~~~
            The bus was blue, striped in white sponsored by recent movies at the time. There were several elderly men and women on the bus, and a few teenagers listening to their iPods in the back. Two girls rushed in after reaching a stop before Kranz middle school.
            “Hide me,” an Asian girl said with her prestigious plaid outfit, “I don’t want my friends to see me on a bus.”
            Matt became irritated. What was wrong with using a local city bus?
            Just then, Kelvin interrupted him. “Hey, you’ve been quiet this whole ride. Is there something on your mind?” Matt still said nothing. “Hey man, sorry if I’m annoying you. Just wondering, that’s all.”
            “You were Santi’s best friend in middle school, right?”
            “O-Oh, yeah!” Kelvin said abruptly, not expecting a sudden question from him.
            “There was a time when Santi told me he reminded me of his best friend.”
            “He said that?” Kelvin blushed.
This boy was just as tall as Matt, and they were both of the same race. They were both even light-skinned which contrasted their stereotyping racial color.
            “Yeah,” Matt barely said.
            “He told me around October in our freshman year during our webcam sessions about making new friends. I think he talked about you too – something about a guy who has a lot of potential power.”
            Matt said nothing this time. The girls began to push their way to the back, giggling louder this time.
            “Are you ready to part off?” Matt asked him.
            “I might just stay on the bus until it passes Mountain View. I need to talk to my friends about the issue. I hope you don’t mind, but the East Coasters want me to report to them my progress. I’ll just have to tell them that I failed.”
            “The East Coasters are there?”
            “Yeah. Don’t worry though. I won’t put this on you guys. They’re only threatening me to do bad things.”
            “So you guys are oppressed because of them?”
            “Exactly… I just wished someone would someday save us and kick their asses, but the more people know about the East Coasters, the more impact they’ll cause to us and everybody around them.”
            Matt began to think about how convenient it would be to just directly infiltrate Mountain View and find the East Coasters himself.
            “You said the natural disasters are growing more and more in our area, but you also said that the people responsible for this was on their way, 56 miles a week. How can both of these happen at the same time then?” Omar asked Shirley as they were walking down the new History hall frantically.
            After passing each classroom, Shirley sneaked up into every window to see if there was anything strange happening.
            “The closer they are, the more powerful their weather fluctuations get. It’s kind of like how some people can sense darkness whenever some evil bastard is close by.”
            Omar shrugged. “Still, how can they cause a whole natural disaster from far away? You can’t compare that to feeling their existence.”
            “Yes you can, as long as you have the proper magic for that. And, the East Coasters have the exact medicine for it. Now that they could be anywhere, who knows what they could do?”
 ~~~
            In Mountain View High School, Kelvin stood at the front gate. He hesitated for a moment and Matt knew that he did not want to be responsible for Matt’s arrival.
            “Tell me where they are and I will let you go,” Matt commanded.
            “For the past few days, th-they’ve been hiding in room 102 at this time to talk about their next plans. Please, don’t tell them I told you this!”
            “Yeah, sure,” Matt said as he headed for the room in the opposite direction.
            “Uh, Matt, the classroom is that way.”
            Matt made flames appear from his fists as he punched the ground, cracking it into bits as if there had just been an earthquake. Kelvin said nothing.
            Heading towards room 102, he saw Dracula and Keith standing outside.
            “H-Hey, you’re that guy from the Elemental Challenges! You’ve grown, gya haha!”
            “We apologize, but nobody can enter right now. There is an interview going on,” Keith kindly pushed Matt aside.
            Matt stood in front of him despite his height, “And what may that interview be for?”
            “Uh- um…” Keith suddenly blushed.
            “That’s none of your business, keke!” Dracula had his fangs ready. “Go now, before it is too late, young man.”
            Matt turned away. “Hm,” he thought as he immediately turned around and gave a flaming punch. What was strange was that Matt did not have to physically punch both Dracula and Keith. He punched the air in between them and himself and a large blast of flame appeared to burn their faces. Dracula tried to jump off to the side while Keith, at the same time, readied his stance, trying to calculate Matt’s loss percentage.
            Matt spun in a 360 and then he kicked Dracula in the face with his jet flames and Keith gasped.
            “Loss – zero percent?!” Keith said as Matt punched the ground and a Vermillion of flames erupted towards him. Parts of the building exploded and the archway to classroom 102 broke apart.
            Five men turned around. From behind, Juliet and West looked at Matt in fear, but not in a way that they would be beat, but in a way that they would be saved.
            Matt threw a fireball at one of them at quick speed, almost three times faster than he could ever do before. One of them fell.
            “One,” he said.
            The other four began to move away at the same time but in several directions. Juliet and West stood back. Matt casted a new Missile Lock-On spell that targeted all four of them. Everywhere these men ran, the missiles would follow. One of them was struck by the missile.
            “Two.”
            The remaining three easily slashed away the missiles, some even laughing at how easy it was to avoid it. Matt then used his Jet Glide ability to Rocket himself towards another. The third man exploded through the wall and Matt jumped away before the man landed.
            “Three.”
            Matt then took out his butterfly sword and then he slashed the air in front of him in a cylinder motion. The waves of air suddenly turned into an aura of flame which weakened one of the two remaining men to the ground. As soon as he fainted, the flames dispersed and only one man remained. He leaned against the wall, shivering. Most of the room was burnt and objects such as a few tables and boards were set black now.
            “You are the East Coasters.”
            “What are you doing to do now? The authorities will know you did all this!”
            “Last time I checked, there were no cameras in here. Tell me, why are you targeting El Monte?”
            “U-Us East Coasters were sent from the other side of the continent to check up on you guys. We had to cause a ruckus to your school to pull out the highest potential abilities that we could look up from the students there. I assume you’re one of them, and boy, that fire power sure is strong!”
            “I don’t have time for flattery. Who sent you?”
            “We haven’t seen his face. He had a mask on. All he said was that he’d offer us a governmental position if were able to fish out any more information from you!”
            Matt was not in the mood to finish him off.
            “Go back home and tell them you’ve failed. Or else, I will finish you off here and blame your friends for making this room look the way it is.”
            “Heh! Don’t be so competent. I got witnesses!” He pointed at both Juliet and West.
            Juliet shook her head in disappointment. West did the same.
            “Y-You guys aren’t gonna help me?!” the man panicked.
            “Get out of here!” Matt said as the man ran off.
            Juliet blushed. “Thank you… We’ll tell you what we know.”

Website 18.0, September 21, 2013

Today, I am featuring Website Version 18.0! It corresponds to October 2009.
Hey everyone, right on time! I'm currently online at this very moment so it's about 2-3 minutes late from the usual 12PM update, but I will have to change the date on that. Anyway, the next two episodes are up! Hopefully, you'll see that this plot for Junior Year is starting to pick up the pace already. School is starting in five days, but I'm moving back to the campus apartment in two days to catch up with friends before class sessions actually begin.

Oh yeah! I've already drawn every character in the pre-timeskip but now I need to bold them and color it. Give me about a week or two and I will start adding in new character pages - finally! Well, now that that's done explaining, it's time for me to go. I might~ post some spoilers on the images, but we'll see. Have a great week, all! :)

- I added episodes 263 and 264. The 'Fires of the Sky' tab on top has episodes 263 and 264 if you cannot find it.
- Be on the lookout for new updates. I will post them along the week.
- Base functions and character updates will be more prominent as the weeks go by. Yay!

Note: Please tell me any errors that you find! It would be appreciated. I will fix them.

Episode 264 - A Rally Filled with Predetermined Calamity

Episode 264 – A Rally Filled with Predetermined Calamity

            The school cheered. Students were seated from bleachers upon bleachers where banners were posted in the back, calling out to each school class: freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The freshman banners were usually torn to pieces, but no admin took charge of this as they knew the custom was to pick on the youngest class the most. About a thousand of them were facing the football field where the activities members were catering the events. Shirley had Alex and Omar forced to stand on the field even if they were not members. Sharon was also nearby but she was already a member, so Shirley did not need to ask her to follow along.
            Some students couldn’t even stay still. They always stood up and yelled pointless chants to up their game against other classes.
            “Like a 13oss!” the youngest teenagers said on the field, representing their 2013 class.
            Van said to Maggie, “Is that supposed to say ‘Like a Boss’??”
            “Today’s slogans are the worst. What the hell does ‘like a boss’ mean? Usually, your boss in your workplace is always a douc-…”
            “Class of 2012 isn’t any better…”
            Maggie shrugged. “I’m also ashamed of our own class – 2011. Our slogan is-…”
            “You know how cool we are?” a typical football jock said, standing up in front of everybody to cheer him on. “We are number 1, twice! Double-1!! 2011!!!”
            Maggie covered her head in shame. “That is the saddest slogan EVER.”
            Everybody but all the students in honors and accelerated classes cheered. The honors students looked down in shame, thinking that the other students followed along with the football player like animals.
            Matt sat alone at a further distance to the right. He placed a strange novel next to him so that nobody would take a seat. He did not bother to cheer as he stared stupidly and angrily at the rally. To him, he felt as if this rally was biased, and you would figure out the reason as the rally kept going.
            “What the hell is that kid still doing down here? Get him to the bleachers!” the activities director yelled blatantly again, this time with a megaphone.
            Shirley rolled her eyes, having to signal to Alex that he had to go on the bleachers.
            “Stay alert,” she whispered. “Anything can happen at any time.”
            Alex only grumbled as he looked for a seat, one empty spot next to Matt.
            The president of the activities meeting said on a microphone, “And now…” she said lazily. “Although I’m in the awesome softball team, we move away from recognizing the softball team and move on to the top 10 GPA students…” She rolled her eyes. The cheerleaders began doing their original cheer, and the band from the bleachers began playing music.
            “Tch,” Matt growled.
            The president spoke with a less enchanting voice. “For class of 2010 first…” students cheered, but not for the Top 10 GPA, but only to bump up their charisma and school spirit. Some had no idea what ‘GPA’ meant, even if the most important ‘Grade Point Average’ term was labeled all over their school resumes.
            The moment Alex had arrived, Matt stopped paying attention to the list of GPA students.
            “Hi Matt, long time no talk,” Alex gave a nervous smile, already knowing that Matt could barely smile on his own.
            “Yeah,” he said.
            “H-How are you?”
            “I’m good.”
            “The rally is stupid, huh,” Alex added. He knew Matt disliked rallies but every student was forced to attend in order to show school spirit at the start of the year.
            “Definitely,” Matt barely said.
            Alex asked him, “So uh, how’s um… Nix doing?”
            Matt said nothing this time.
            From further to the right, Jen watched Alex trying to speak with Matt. She had hoped that Alex would help snap Matt back to normal, but at this point, nothing could.
            “You’re still worrying about him?” Stan asked Jen. Jen made a slight jump in surprise. With the ‘school spirit’ going on, she didn’t really expect anybody to notice her.
            Lisa was to the left of Jen while Stan was to the right. She listened in on them.
            “I’m worried. He’s spending his time in misery when he should be having fun.”
            “Well you’re in misery too, because you’re worrying a lot,” Lisa joked.
            “Maybe I should try to talk to him again,” she said as she stood up.
            Stan grabbed her dress sleeve, “Wait. We don’t want him to get angry in public. Let’s talk to him after.”
            Jen stood up. “I can’t wait that long!”
            The activities director from way down below called out to her, “Hey, girl with the dress, SIT YOUR ASS DOWN.”
            Jen said down, wailing with a waterfall of tears running down her eyes.
            Van panicked. “I-Is she crying?!”
            Maggie shivered. “That new activities director though…”
~~~
            “And here is to our lovely Track & Field team!” the president called out. The cheerleaders and band members continued with their new themes.
            Omar said to Shirley, “Can’t they do like, Top 11 GPA students?”
            Shirley began laughing barbarically. “Let me guess, you’re ranked 11.”
            “You decide to skip a homework assignment and it changes everything,” he began searching around, “so what are we looking for anyway?”
            “Alex and I have been protecting this city, hoping nobody would know it’s us. Natural disasters keep coming up more often.”
            “Isn’t it just global warming?”
            “You can’t blame everything on global warming! There are forest fires every so often – nearby. That never happens.”
            Omar patted her bare shoulder as Shirley only wore a tank top. “You’re just overreacting. Maybe Matt started those fires by accident while training. And besides, you can’t call them natural disasters if-…”
            Shirley interrupted him, “Don’t touch me,” as she went on with the topic, “It can still be a natural disaster because of elemental inconsistency in the weather. Someone is doing this to the weather which is screwing up the natural balance in forests and mountains. Trust me, Matt is not doing anything. He barely even talks!”
            Omar began to laugh. “Let’s say someone is messing up the weather, do you have any clues?”
            Shirley explained to him, “The disasters keep getting closer to the El Monte district. If you’ve read the news, it went from the east coast and then it slowly got closer to our high school at least once a week. Alex did the math of each distance.”
            “Since you can’t.”
            “Let me finish explaining, you piece of crap,” she began feeling frustrated by Omar’s jokes. “Alex measured that the distance is equal to about 56 miles each week. Sometimes two disasters would happen and the distance for each would be 28 miles apart. Only three days ago, there was a forest fire at some hill near our district and we had to set it off. The last day is today – which should be here exactly.”
            Winny’s eyes belched. She suddenly walked off the field to go to the restroom while the activities director was not looking.
            “Okay, for class of 2011’s Top 10 GPA…” the president said unenthusiastically, “Number 10, Kalpesh.”
            Omar began kneeling down in tears. “This is not fair!” he said dramatically.
            The cheering became louder as the number count went closer to one. “Nine, Yessenia!” Then, the list went down to Huy, then to Lisa and Jen.
            Jen and Lisa stood up together.
            Lisa panicked. “Why didn’t we get the early notice?!”
            You see, every student in a sports team or in the Top GPA were supposed to be notified earlier in Period 1 class. The reason for this is because they must sit down on fancier chairs on the football field in order to save time. It would be difficult and time consuming to wait for honored students to walk off the bleachers with that many students in the way.
            Jen shook her head. “I-I don’t know. We should go down fast before the new activities director yells at us.”
            “You, girl with the dress, hurry your ass down here!! I didn’t ask you to sit and relax like a little girl you are!” he yelled, making Jen cry in waterfall tears again. The students nearby were soaked.
            “Next, Top 5: Tony!” the president continued.
            “Get your ass over here!” The activities director threatened. The students on the bleachers began to laugh at Jen.
            Matt clenched his teeth. Irritation began to rise on the activities director, Jen, Lisa, Matt, and a few other students who didn’t bother to listen to the rally.
            “Four: Amy!”
            Omar yawned, “I don’t care anymore. This countdown lame now.”
            “Wait- countdown?!” Shirley yelped. She suddenly hurried to Sharon.
            Alex got up in an instant like a dog that became alert of predetermined nature. Matt watched him slowly, but he still did not care.
            “Three: Julie.”
            So far, these eight students stood in a straight, horizontal line to be recognized. Shirley had whispered something into Sharon’s ear, and Sharon looked petrified. Alex pleaded Matt to follow, but he did not move from his seat. Alex sneered as he continued down the bleachers on his own. Stan watched him from afar.
            “Two: Shirl!”
            Alex stood by the fence that separated the bleachers and the track field that was ringed around the football field like the planet Saturn. Cheerleaders began climbing onto each other, a few even spinning in the air while the band members played their music faster. Alex began to panic.
            “And our top student for class of 2011 is… Cyn-…”
            Suddenly, the only place where cameras were running had exploded: the red crane that was placed on the track. The camera man luckily was not at the crane. He needed to recharge batteries, so he had to go to the activities office. The moment he came back, everyone began to scream.
            “Now!” Shirley commanded as Sharon began to work her magic.
            The crowd began to slow down. Their eyes turned purple, just the same way when Sharon used her powers against Shirley at the Sunlit Mayhem. This sent a chill down Shirley’s spine, but at least she was not the target this time.
            Alex and Omar headed for the crane which was the very reason why Shirley had them stand on the field beforehand.
            Matt was the only student who continued to move on his own, guarding himself against Sharon’s daydream powers by casting a flame shield in front of him.
            “I missed someone?” Sharon gasped.
            “No, that’s good! He can help us!” Shirley called Matt’s name from afar.
            “Three days late, aren’t you?” Matt said by himself, holding the novel in his hands. Who was he talking to?
            Sharon then aimed at the cheerleaders, and then the activities director. There were a few more students that still had their senses and Sharon had to aim at specific ones who didn’t have powers.
            The Top 10 GPA students were left intact. Well, there were only nine. One of them didn’t show up yet – Number 1. Lisa looked around, confused.
            “What’s going on? What is happening?”
            Jen grabbed Lisa’s arms. “I’ll explain later. We have to hide, now!”
            “W-What?”
            Matt walked down the bleachers and then towards the gate. Jen passed him and said quickly, “I’m counting on you. Please, Matt,” she said kindly as she dragged Lisa into the girls’ lockers to wait.
            “Matt,” Shirley said, “you’re here to help too, right?”
            “Yeah, yeah,” Matt only shrugged.
            As the crane had completely fallen, a beam of light flew to the west, out to the school’s boundaries.
            Yessenia took a step forward. “Let us hope Jen is correct on this one!” She then pointed towards the exit to the school, “Omar, Huy, follow after that beam of light. Someone is there and is trying to escape.”
            “And the rest of us?” Tony questioned.
            Another beam of light appeared on the fallen crane and out came a student no one has ever seen before, except for Matt and Yessenia.
            “Eeeh! There is more than I expected!” he gulped.
            Yessenia smiled. “You must be one of them, Kelvin.”
            “Who’s Kelvin?” Julie wondered.
            Matt threw the book up into the air in an arch-direction towards Julie. “A student from this book’s prophecy. Found it in one of the worlds I’ve gone.”
            Julie opened the book and then she skimmed through the pages. “The last few are empty though.”
            “This prophecy is about El Monte,” Yessenia answered. “The strange thing is that only Jen is able to see those last pages. This same goes for every book.”
            “So every novel has a story we can jump into?” Shirley asked.
            “No. There are some books that do not belong on Earth and it is because somebody must have brought them here to Earth. The specific books that need fixing are those that none can see but Jen.”
            Kalpesh frowned. “Bummer. So we can’t go into books like Frankenstein or Huckleberry Finn.”
            “Exactly. But, as long as we overestimate the prophecy and prepare ourselves,” she pointed her long sword at Kelvin, “we can protect our school from any invasion.”
            “We are being targeted,” Matt concluded.
- Preview to the next episode! -
Matt: On the next episode of Fires of the Sky…
Winny: Why have I seen this Kelvin before?
Amy: Hm… same here. That was kind of strange.
Alex: Geh! The more important thing is, why was he sent to spy on us?!
Matt: We tracked him down to Mountain View. I’m going to take a look.
Shirley: Uhhhh, hello?! You can’t just barge into their school and ask about these so-called ‘East Coasters’.
Alex: Y-Yeah, Shirley’s right! Don’t you know how dangerous it could be? The East Coasters were sent from the Elemental government to check up on us.
Matt: I don’t care. They’re not messing with our school.
Jaime: If that’s what he believes, then we should let him go.
Jen: I’m a little worried…
Matt: Alright, Kelvin, we’re going to Mountain View. Next time on episode 265, Mountain View and the East Coasters!
Kelvin: A-Are you sure you want to go?!
Matt: Certain.
