Episode 272 - What Terrible Fashion! Better Laser It Up!

Recently on Fires of the sky, lots of things have changed after 365 days. Almost every student had to separate and disconnect with each other due to self-anger and terrible memories of the first two years. As the main students rejoiced, they find that Jen can mysteriously read books with empty pages as if they did have text and pictures. It only appears whenever she is reading. Further along the Reunion, the main group finds that Winny has left to Temple City to start a new life, but what is her reason? The students follow her into a new prophecy book that leads into Temple City’s world, much like El Monte’s ‘Arkon’s Magic’. What surprises will the students experience this time?
Episode 272 – What Terrible Fashion! Better Laser It Up!

            It was pretty strange. Some things you wouldn’t expect to see happening again like Winny’s split forms actually happened. Now, Winny’s giddy form barely spoke much through Matt’s concerned and hasty mindset here. You see, due to Winny’s split personality power, she has the ability to change into her giddy or serious personality. If ever combined properly, we could finally see the true Winny. Have we reached that level yet?
            For the first two years, Winny has been explored through both sides of her personality and it is still struggling to find out who the real Winny is. The only true form that was seen was during her past, being threatened to lose her sister because of Luther. Now, that form has disappeared and split into two.
            As the months have gone by in the first two years of high school, Winny’s split personality’s control has gone the opposite direction compared to everyone else. Her stableness worsened while everybody learned to practice and control their own powers smoothly. Hers, well… it still needs some fixing to do, and in order to fix it, El Monte needed to show higher spirits of friendship, family, and love. It was flawed on both parts from them and herself actually, and this is the result of that problem… a broken Winny that is now shattered into an emission of light and darkness.
 ~~~
            Two strips of tears slid down Matt’s cheek, one from each side. “I need… to talk to her.” He said to Winny’s giddy form. He needed to have a second conversation, but this time with an understanding of how Winny’s darkness felt about her past life.
            Winny’s giddy form tilted her head. “Hm? I don’t understand. I’m right here.”
            “Where is the other Winny?”
            “I-I don’t know. I haven’t seen her yet? Is she here or something?”
            Matt scratched his head after wiping his tears. “But… All I did was walk straightforward and you said this is the last room. Where could she have gone?”
            Winny jumped. “Oh! Timothy told me something awesome! This building is not really the temple. It’s just an illusion.”
            “That’s it!” Matt said. An idea finally sparked his mind, but he did not know how to deal with this new thought. Where should he begin?
 ~~~
            Meanwhile, Shirley was making way down a large closet filled with clothes everywhere. Her eyes began to glitter as she wanted more clothes to take with her before leaving. There were so many designs ranging from zigzags, polka dots, quads, and more. It also ranged in material such as cotton, polyester, leather, and many others that you can imagine, but those were usually the main ones made in the Temple City area. The room only had light bulbs running down the extremely narrow pathway that Shirley was walking through. She turned to the left to look at one of the most intriguing combinations.
            “How do you like the styles? Mmm!~” a girl asked with a moaning voice.
            Shirley quickly turned back to the right. “W-Who are you?!”
            “Aw, that’s no way to treat someone who actually lives here. I’m Selfie Lust! Well, that’s my codename until we defeat the rest of the sinful people out there. I just don’t know when they’ll arrive.”
            “Are you being serious right now?”
            “Serious about what?” She took out a parasol. “Maybe I’m not being serious. Maybe I know something, but maybe I don’t know something at the same time.”
            This bothersome girl was a few inches shorter than Shirley, probably about five inches. The even more funny part was, she looked like a middle schooler but like all the bearers, she had to be in high school if she goes to Temple City High School. She had blonde hair and the same triangle hat style as Shirley’s, but green. Long, curly hair ran down her body and her face was painted like a white doll.
            “You seem to have great taste in fashion. I’ve collected so much, and all I want is more, more, and more!” It started to feel as if she was whining now.
            Shirley clenched her teeth. “You’re mocking me now, aren’t you?”
            Selfie suddenly had a dark look on her face. “You’re just like me – you are Lust!”
            Shirley took a step back. “Er… what?” She suddenly thought to herself, “My god, it’s like her name isn’t Selfie for nothing. She probably takes a lot of selfies if she’s so into fashion like this!” She jumped into the random clothes to her right before Selfie could zap a flash cannon with her parasol. It ran down the whole hallway but nothing happened since she missed.
            “Take this!” She shot another laser from her pretty pink parasol to where Shirley jumped into.
            “EEYAHHH!” Shirley moaned in fear. “(She’s crazy! Why is she blowing up her own clothes just to catch someone like me?!)” She hid from one cloth dump to another.
            “I know you’re hiding somewhere!~”
            “How about no?!” Shirley was only moving further away from her forward progression. She was returning to the entrance unintentionally because of Selfie’s laser attacks and if she reached the entrance again, there would be no place to hide.
            Shirley ran nearby the entrance and hid behind the clothes. Selfie was slowly making her way down the corridor, shooting random lasers at the clothes nearby herself. Shirley began to panic. “(Okay Shirley, you have to think fast. What should you do at a time like this? You didn’t train and save the city of El Monte for a whole year for nothing, and then randomly lose to this little girl!)”
            “If you keep stalling, surely you won’t have enough time to use these clothes as protection!~”
            Shirley paused. “Protection?” She suddenly gasped. “That’s it!”
            After about two minutes, Selfie was about eight meters away from the entrance. “For sure, my next hit is going to kill you. Hehe!” She started hearing a stomping noise coming out of the racks of clothing.
            Shirley appeared as a giant ball, except for her feet, hands, and head. Shirley coughed. “H-Hehehe! Now whatever you’re going to shoot at me, your precious little clothes will protect me!”
            Selfie screamed in utter disgust. “EEEEEHHHHH?!” Her eyes were about to pop out in angst. “How dare you wear my clothes?!” She pointed her parasol towards Shirley’s stomach, or… clothes. “Take this!!”
            The laser struck Shirley but Shirley felt unaffected. “Hehe!”
            “I-I don’t understand! My laser can’t be that weak to clothes even if it’s a large bundle!”
            Shirley stomped closer to Selfie as Selfie forcefully had to run back now. This gave Shirley more room to fight back.
            “(Thank goodness this is working! The reason why the laser isn’t going through the clothes is because I veiled myself in solid ice in between the clothes and myself. She can’t see this trick, hehe!)”
            Shirley’s movement was slow, however. Selfie ran further away. She had enough time to turn around and mindlessly shoot a few more lasers. “Take my clothes off now!”
            “How dirty of you!”
            “I’m talking about the ones you’re wearing, stupid!” She shot a few more lasers before Shirley stopped laughing. It occurred to her that if Selfie kept blasting more lasers, the ice will crackle and shatter.
            Shirley finally decided it was time to explode the ice outward. The ice shattered by her own will and then she made it fly outward in a circumference distance. The ice that flew forward was aiming towards Selfie.
            Selfie shot one huge laser and it exploded the ice in midair in between them. Shirley and Selfie were face-to-face with their original outfits again. Well, at least the stalling did Shirley some justice and it gave her more time to survive any lethal attacks from before.
            “What are you going to do now?” Selfie asked. “Like before, you’re just forced to run off to the side but this time, the clothes have fallen because of my lasers and you have nowhere to hide!”
            “I know now.” Shirley was sure of what Selfie was going to do next. In rage, Selfie blasted a laser at Shirley and Shirley had to build an ice boulder that blocked the whole room in between. Instead of smashing through the ice, Shirley held onto the ice as best as she could. The laser continued to slam itself against the giant block. She could only hear Selfie but as a murmur because the ice had completely shut off their connection. After a few seconds, Shirley could barely hold off the ice. She was forced to fall over and the ice shattered, causing the laser to slightly shift directions upwards. The ceiling had exploded and the moonlight appeared.
            “What?! How did you?!” Selfie pointed her parasol at the hole that the previous laser shot through. “This time, yer gonna get it!”
            Shirley turned her arms into a fist of ice. “Try me!” Shirley broke the rest of the ice wall herself.
            “Haha! What an idiot! Are you trying to kill yourself?” Selfie shot one laser and Shirley punched it upwards, breaking through the ceiling above. Selfie stopped for a moment and then she knew Shirley wouldn’t be able to hold off any longer. She shot several more lasers, one after another every second.
            After about ten lasers, Shirley accidentally shifted the laser to the left side of the wall instead of upwards and she could see another room. “Wait, what?” She thought as she quickly ran in for safety.
            “Oh no you don’t!” Selfie followed her in and Shirley was missing. She saw William wandering around the room.  “Who are you?” She asked rudely.
            “Soul Activate…” William said without turning around.
            “What kind of name is that?”
            “Evil Books~” William turned around with a smile. This made Selfie immediately become frightened.
            The books on the shelf suddenly floated and eyes appeared. The center page of each novel opened and teeth grew out of them like piranhas. Shirley appeared from her hiding spot: the large couch in the center of the room that William was standing behind.
            Shirley pointed at Selfie, “Two versus one!”
            “Ugh! Don’t get me angry!” She blasted a laser at Shirley and William who were too close in its range. Shirley and William ducked while the evil books were flying towards Selfie from a different direction.
            Selfie ran back to her own room, crying. “Nooo! Get away! Get these things away from me!” She begged. Her voice suddenly disappeared into the distance.
            “Should we chase her?” Shirley suggested.
            “If you want. But, I’m staying here to wait for whoever is in this room. “I already know who I am expecting.”
            “Really? Who?”
            “All of those books were cook books. The one we fought outside at the market was Grimm Gluttony, I recall. He’s not here yet because he’s probably moping about his loss.”
            Shirley shivered. “You barely talk, but when you do, you sound like you show no mercy. Even then, you still sound very calm.”
            “I do?”
            “Er… Never mind. I’ll wait here with you. It doesn’t seem like Selfie will be getting rid of those evil books any time soon.”
            “That’s nice of you.” He sat on the couch, eating the extra walnuts from a closed container that was on the table next to him.
            Shirley hesitated to sit down. She could see a bunch of cookie crumbs on the couch. She decided to stand, waiting awkwardly.
 ~~~
            Matt ran back out of Winny Envy’s room but he saw no one return. The large football field room was empty and quiet.
            “Winny! Where are you?!” He yelled, not caring if any of the sin bearers found out he was still in the center room.
            “Matt!” Phoenix called from the room on the upper left which was closest to Winny’s room. He held onto three books and then he tripped onto his own shoelaces.
            Matt sighed. “Why don’t you ever tie your shoes?”
            “I-I don’t know how.”
            Matt knelt down in front of him as he grabbed a lace. “Tch… This is a waste of time, but here. I usually do the bunny knot.”
            “Aren’t bunnies animals? That’s terrible!” Phoenix cried.
            “No. That’s the name for this sort of knot. Get each lace and then do a normal cross tie first to lock your feet into your shoes. Then, pull each lace outward again like the beginning, and then bend them in a circular shape. Cross tie them again and you already have the bunny lace. Try it.”
            Phoenix tried to practice on the other shoe, but his circular shapes only slid out whenever he tried to tie them together.
            Matt clenched his teeth. “Really?” Matt decided to tie Phoenix’s other shoe for him.
            Phoenix hugged Matt as thanks, “You’re so nice after all!”
            “What are you talking about?”
            “Deep inside… there is still… you.”
            Matt gasped. “Me…?”
            “Good thing too. I thought the good side would split apart forever… I was getting sad. Listen, the reason why I came back was because-…”
            Matt was reminded of Winny. “Hey, we have to find Winny! Let’s go!”
            Phoenix frowned. “Aw, figures… I guess he didn’t want to hear my mushy comments…”
