Episode 153 - Pure Hatred, the Long-term Grudge of Alex

On the last few episodes, a man named Rowen Bartholemute appears in the Death Maze! About this man, Michael says Rowen is a dangerous person and is an alumnus of El Monte High School. His class year is 2007, right before Matt and his friends entered high school. What’s with this person though? He looks like he is in despair and is telling Matt and Amy to get out of the Death Maze! Anyway, Matt and Yessenia’s group meet together again and this time, they are working together to try to get out of the Death Maze. However, the plants are mutating and expanding exponentially, so even Amy’s plant powers are not working here. While this is happening, Peter, the panda, heads towards the Meteo Bridge but Jaime is there as well! They go through a short brawl and unfortunately, Peter decides to return later after losing a lot of energy.
Episode 153 – Pure Hatred, the Long-term Grudge of Alex

            It was almost dusk in the Marconian Continent. The group of six: Matt, Yessenia, Alex, Huy, Shirley, and Amy all made their way towards the next place: the Grailden Cavern. Along the way was a river off the right end of their pathway. Amy ran over to the river and said in awe, “This river is so beautiful at night!”
            Shirley knelt down beside the flowing river. “It is nice. Looks like clean water too.”
            Huy stretched and then he yawned. “Ahhh~ It’s not bad for us to finally take a rest overnight right? There are two large boulders over there for us to cave in and sleep for the night.”
            Matt realized he was getting tired as well. Yessenia decided it was best for them to rest before heading south towards Wisteria. “I guess we can wait.”
            Matt interrupted them. “Wisteria is only a short way from here. We should hurry, shouldn’t we?”
            “I know there is war going on down there. I understand that. But, we cannot function on saving Wisteria without getting some rest.” Yessenia said calmly.
            Matt clenched his fists. He remembered his promise with the fallen woman back in the concentration camp at West Bridge. “Ergh… Well fine! Don’t blame me if we mess up.” Matt stomped his foot as he angrily walked under the two large boulders.
            Alex said in an annoyed tone, “He’s so impatient. I can’t stand him…”
            “Why do you hate him so much?” Yessenia wondered.
            Alex wanted to tell her why, but he noticed that Huy was still nearby to listen. Amy and Shirley were trailing off towards the river on the other hand. He decided not say anything about Matt. “I’m going to rest for the night too.”
            Yessenia watched him head towards the boulders, but nowhere near Matt. “Hm…” she muttered to herself.
 ~~~
            It was getting dark and everybody was asleep under the boulder, except Alex who was sticking out of the cave-like area. Seconds had gone by and Yessenia woke up from a slight noise. She wiped her eyes and then she noticed that Alex had recently left his sleeping area. “Oh?” She wondered to herself. She saw Alex sitting nearby the river as she headed over to him. Huy was snoring and Shirley was sleeping the opposite direction of him, making her foot kick his face sometimes. Huy was a heavy sleeper, so he did not wake up. Matt was sleeping quietly nearest the fire while Amy was sleeping peacefully with the most amounts of warmth and safety from any type of danger.
            Yessenia sat next to Alex. Alex looked up at her while the wind was passing by. Yessenia whispered to him, “You are awake.” She tried to smile, remembering that Alex was troubled over something. “You alright?”
            “Yeah…” He looked away. Yessenia gave him a few seconds to respond. It took Alex awhile, but he finally spoke again, “What would you do if someone you wanted to care for, did not even bother to remember you?”
            “Where are you going with this?” Yessenia questioned him. Alex said nothing. Yessenia went on, “To answer you, I would feel sad too.” The way she added ‘too’ at the end of her opinion led Alex to figure out that Yessenia knew something was going on.
            “Matt takes friends for granted. I know it shouldn’t be a big deal that he didn’t remember me at the concentration camp, but it was really crucial. Crucial as in just because he didn’t remember me, I was at risk of staying at the camp forever…”
            “That is what you are afraid of?” Yessenia chuckled.
            Alex became angry. “I am being serious here! You know what could have happened if Venus was not there with me?”
            Yessenia scratched her head. “I do understand. That reminds me… Venus is not here.”
            Alex frowned. “Yeah… that made me sad. The more annoying one had to come back to us.” He was talking about the reunion between the two of them and Matt instead of Venus.
            “Are you still angry with him?”
            “Yeah… I guess you could say that. But, I looked at his messed-up clothes. They were nice clothes, but they were really ruined. That made me wonder… how hard has he been trying in order to survive? He suffered a lot more than I had realized.”
            Yessenia grinned. “It is true. His closest friend from last year is now gone. Sometimes I wonder if he blames himself for having his friend, Santi, make a huge sacrifice just to protect Matt.” Alex became silent. He tried to understand how hard it was to lose Mariel as well. Yessenia asked, “You do not plan on telling him anything?”
            “Maybe not… I probably would someday soon though. I’m just scared to hurt people especially him. His feelings seem a bit fragile to me.”
            “I know what you mean.” Yessenia said.
            Alex turned to her, “If I had to mention one thing that I learned from you most throughout our adventure since the East Bridge, I’d say it would be ‘courage’.” Yessenia blushed and Alex continued, “Even if we both took the safe route to find Jaime, our intentions were different. You were being smart, going through the safe path. I was just scared, wanting to follow the safe path. Even in our path, we’ve had a few dangerous times. I don’t want to be scared anymore. I just can’t help it.”
            Yessenia stood up. “If you do not want to be scared, then you can choose not to be scared. It is that easy.”
            “Are you sure about that?”
            “I tell myself all the time… if something brings me down, then I should always think of those who have it worse. After all, we are living in a first-world problematic society.”
            Alex chuckled a little. “That’s true. I’d cry if I lost my phone.”
            Yessenia held out her hand. “Now come on, get up. You do not have to mope around with the thought of being afraid, if that was your biggest issue.”
            Alex closed his eyes and then he smiled. He slapped her hand away. Yessenia made a slight gasp. Alex stood up himself. “You’re right, Yessenia. I don’t need to be scared. I don’t need people to help me all the time.” He stood up, letting Yessenia know that he did not need her help on getting up – for starters.
            Yessenia felt happy that she was able to have a conversation about how Alex was exactly feeling. Matt was awake, standing from behind a tree. Of course he had woken up from the slight movements of Alex and Yessenia. He was a light sleeper after all. He hurriedly ran back to where he was sleeping. Afterwards, Yessenia and Alex walked back and sat nearby the bonfire that kept the group of six warm. After a few minutes, Alex whispered to Yessenia that he was about to go to bed for the rest of the night.
 ~~~
            The next morning came and dawn had eventually arrived. Huy sat up with a yawn and Shirley woke up from his loud squeamish. She slapped him a little. “How dare you wake me up!”
            “What?!” Huy responded. Followed by their short argument, every other student had awakened.
            Amy said kindly, “Good morning, everyone!”
            “Good morning!” Shirley responded respectfully with joy.
            Matt pointed south, “Onward! We’re heading for Wisteria!”
            Yessenia took out the Elsiyan map. “It seems we came from the east which was the Death Maze. We are now going south to the Grailden Cavern in order to reach Wisteria. We know we are going the right path if we see a bridge on the way. This bridge is called the Meteo Bridge. Right now, we are at this river called the ‘String River’.”
            Matt explained to her, “Amy and I came from the northern area of the continent. You all went through the southern area, right?”
            Shirley shook her head. “Yeah. On the map, we went through everything from the Ogre Forest.”
            Yessenia kept track of all the places they have been through since the West Bridge. “So all we have left is to go south to Wisteria and we have ventured through the whole continent.” She said with a low tone. “In this case… I see what the CORP soldiers and lieutenants are doing.”
            Amy clamped her hands together in fear. “Wh-What do you mean?” She noticed that Yessenia’s tone was getting a bit deeper.
            “I have put all the pieces together.” She turned to Matt, “You. Remember when Jaime found out at the Junkyard?”
            “Huh? Me? Yeah…” Matt responded in confusion.
            “He followed us from the concentration camp back in West Bridge. That means, he watched all of the events that you and I have gone through back then. Do you remember what you promised to the dying woman?”
            Matt scratched his head. “Her name was Melanie… Oh!” He clenched his fists in anger. “Wisteria is still at war!”
            Yessenia nodded. “Exactly. Jaime and Tony work together. So, whatever Jaime sees, he will report to Tony. And since Jaime had noticed that you promised to protect and save Wisteria, the two of those students will use that city to taunt and provoke you.”
            “Why me only?” Matt asked.
            “Your potential for being strong is high, yet you are not proving yourself, in their opinion.”
            “Excuse me?” Matt rolled his eyes. He became annoyed.
            Yessenia took a step back. “I am sorry to mention it. I just want to make things clear. I have figured that our powers were not just randomly chosen.”
            “What are you talking about?” Huy wondered.
            Yessenia began to explain everyone’s situation at once. “Amy’s personality is young and calm, the same mood you would get at a peaceful, blossomed meadow, hence, her plant powers. Alex’s water powers represent weak yet smooth motion. Alex, you are very unbalanced between your physical and mental strength. Shirley’s ice powers represent herself as an ice queen. She is like the princess and queen of our group.”
            “Me?” Shirley blushed.
            “That makes sense.” Huy joked.
            “Shut your mouth!!” Shirley screamed.
            Yessenia continued. “Huy, I have noticed that some of your test grades have been either low or super high. You either get lucky or unlucky. Therefore, your power to boost yourself fits will, although it is hard to control. Yet, your luck helps you keep it consistent in being powerful. As for Matt…” She began to tremble. “Your power came about because of your temper.”
            Matt froze in surprise. “What…?” The whole group gasped along with him, being most surprised.
            Huy and Alex were silent. It seemed they knew something about this, so there was no point in being as surprised. Amy said innocently, “But… Matt is a nice guy.”
            Matt turned away. “It’s true that I don’t have a good temper sometimes… It’s not like im bi-polar.”
            “That is definitely right. Matt, you are not bi-polar, but your tolerance is low.”
            “So it’s not really a bad thing, right?” Shirley wondered.
            Matt grinned. “That’s why I am sensitive. I hate danger. But, when something goes wrong, I go all out. This is why I want to stop those damn CORP soldiers once and for all. I can’t stand them!” His aura turned yellow.
            “Hey…” Yessenia warned him. “We are not there yet. My point was that your power has the most potential to be strong between us all.”
            Shirley giggled. “Except you, Yessenia. Wind accounts for speed. You’re pretty quick in knowledge and critical thinking.”
            Yessenia blushed. “That is irrelevant…”
            “It’s true though. You can’t deny that!” Shirley began chuckling. Yessenia used Constricted Wind on Shirley to shut her mouth.
            “S-Shirley!” Amy was astonished.
            Shirley cried. “Fine, fine I’ll stop messing around!”
            Yessenia closed her eyes. “Anyway, our final battle shall reside on fighting them directly. I can sense that they are all waiting for us to make our way to Wisteria.”
            Matt agreed with her. “And I’ll keep my promise. I will save Wisteria!”
            “Then we will head towards south this instant.” Yessenia said as she walked in front of the group.
 ~~~
            Large footsteps were being made in between the path of Wisteria and the Meteo Bridge. “North?” said the voice. This person is actually… not really a person. It was a panda, Peter the panda. “I must find my allies.”
            “I’m afraid that’s not going to happen.” Jaime appeared in front of him. “Peter… why would you run away after turning into a panda? I could have helped you turn back to normal. You want that, don’t you?”
            “Tch… You again…” Peter said. He was determined. He had a difficult time running towards Wisteria all the way from Melvin. Many people thought he was just a mutation of a panda and no one accepted him. He had to go through the mountains in between Elk Village and the String River.
            “Sleep – in the shadow of darkness.” Jaime pointed a finger at Peter. A dark shadow bellowed within Peter and Jaime’s power was affecting the panda really well. “I shouldn’t waste my energy on you. I can at least delay the time of you trying to make a move against the CORP soldiers.”
            Peter began falling asleep. “You… bastard…!”
Jaime laughed and he made a grin. “Next stop, Wisteria.”
Peter fell flat onto the ground in rest…
