Episode 119: The Necessity for Escape, Eager to Depart!

It’s me, Nix, again! You’re probably wondering where I came from when you listened to me last time, huh? That’s a secret, sh! Today, we’ll be talking about ‘possession’. As you can see, Jon and Stan had been possessed throughout freshman year. This is because of a dark aura that erupted all around them. Jon was injected with a negative power, Dispel. Stan’s eager for friendship went the wrong way so he forced his way to gain powers. His powers, the ability to summon weapons and armors at any time, was a negative power as well. You may have noticed that Jon and Stan contrasted with all of the other power users. There must be more out there. That doesn’t sound too good to me!
Episode 119 – The Necessity for Escape, Eager to Depart!

            The whole camp was watching the scene where Matt stood. The woman behind him lay silent on the floor. Tumbleweeds crossed and sand flew around the harvested area. Matt was clenching his fists in anger. “This woman has two kids and now they are parentless! Don’t you realize what you just did?!” He yelled at the soldier who was being pulled away by other soldiers. The lieutenant chuckled.
            “Matt is his name?” said one of the peasants from within the crowd behind Matt.
            A girl with a petit voice said to him, “Sh! This could be anybody. Let’s just keep watching.”
            “Such an enthusiastic boy.” Said Lt. Braus. “Now, where were we?”
            Matt took a look around below him and he saw a long shovel which Melanie used to harvest. He picked up the shovel and held onto it with both hands. “Stay back!”
            “Oh? Why are you hesitating all the sudden? Did something hit your head?” the lieutenant said sarcastically again. “You’re making me go through many binds.” He took out his shotgun. “Our job is to knock you down, but kill you. Are you willing to lose a knee just for a pointless attempt to escape?”
            Matt waited for the lieutenant to shoot. He began to take a few steps back to taunt the lieutenant. “Stay back…” He focused closely on the man who was still pointing the shotgun. Because the man mentioned the knee, Matt made sure to use the shovel to protect himself at that area. At quick speed, the lieutenant aimed at Matt’s knee and pulled the trigger. Matt’s reflected with his shovel and the bullet was knocked off.
            “Ah hah! Good boy!” The lieutenant laughed it off. He never really seemed to care about what happened. He was not an uptight lieutenant at all. “Do you want to have a feud right here while everybody is watching?” Matt did not say anything. “Why are you so quiet?” He gave a sigh. “Ah well. To make things fair…” The lieutenant withdrew his shotgun and then he took out a foil sword. “You familiar with fencing?” Matt still did not respond. He was still positioned to fight. “Alright, alright. I’ll give you what you want. Let’s go!”
 ~~~
            The lieutenant began his first move by throwing a piercing attack towards Matt with his foil sword. Matt almost tripped while trying to take a few steps backwards. “Oh?” Lt. Braus paused for a moment. “It seems you are unfamiliar with your attacking and dodging. Mind if I help you?” The soldiers who were watching nearby were quite confused at how this lieutenant decided to randomly teach Matt how to fight. “Courtesy by me. It would be unfair for me to fight someone unskilled like you, no?” Matt squinted his left eye a little to show that he was focused and bothered by the lieutenant’s comment.
            Lt. Braus pointed at Matt’s right leg, “I assume you are right-handed. You will have to be lucky if I decide to attack your right area. Whichever side I attack first, you must take a step back with only that side. What I saw just now was you trying to avoid with your whole body. At an advantage with just one side backing up, you are at a clear defense and will easily resume to your attacking position with ease. Like so, try attacking me.” Matt did not know whether to try and kill the lieutenant or wait it out a little more. After all, Matt had no reason to kill the lieutenant so far. Matt tried aiming for the lieutenant’s left shoulder but Lt. Braus backed away with only his left side. With a quick counter, he moved back into his normal position and aimed for Matt’s right hips. From the counter, the foil sliced through Matt’s peasantry robe. “That was a counter move. Once you are fast enough with your retaliation, you will learn how to counter without struggle.”
            Matt looked away. “Tch” was all he said.
            “Also, right now you are still a beginner so you can attack once at a time. If you start spamming lots of attacks at once while you’re still a beginner, you will unnaturally become uncontrollable. Your body will want to fight more but it will not see where it is going. Be careful with that.”
            “I don’t need to learn from you.” Matt said bluntly. He made about three strikes but he tripped after the third. The lieutenant laughed and kicked Matt on the back. He left his foot there so that Matt was stuck flat on the ground. “One victory point for me!” Lt. Braus decided to let Matt free for movement again. “Alright, now everybody, back to work! You too, kid.”
            Matt got up, wiped his sleeves and spoke, “I’m not done…!”
            “Do you want to keep fighting recklessly?” The lieutenant became annoyed. “If you continue to hesitate, we can always torture you. It is that easy.”
            Matt pointed his shovel at the lieutenant. “I don’t even know why I’m stuck here!!”
            The lieutenant was surprised. He felt that Matt was a bit too confused about his existence in the World of Elsiya. “Alright, we need to calm you down.” He took out his shotgun and pointed it at Matt’s knee. “Here we go again, right? Heh.”
            All of the sudden, a teenage girl threw a rake at Lt. Braus’s back. Soldiers nearby her quickly grabbed her by the arms. The lieutenant turned around and said to them, “Let her go.” He commanded. He began walking towards the girl, “And, who might you be, young lady?” Lt. Braus began tilting his head. “Mmm? Familiar. A friend of the boy, I assume.”
            A soldier interrupted him, “Sir, her number is 54, one right after the boy.”
            “Your name, miss?”
            The girl responded. “Yessenia Zhou.”
            Matt gasped. “H-Hey!” He thought to himself, “Why did you give out your name like that?”
            The same boy and girl from within the crowd paused for a moment. “And why is she giving out her name?” asked the boy who seemed quite confused about the situation.
            The petit girl jumped in annoyance, “Sh for once, yeah? This is interesting!”
            “Brave of you to confess your name. Or, are you just utterly mindless?” The lieutenant asked.
            “I rather not be considered a number.” Said Yessenia. “And what difference does it make? My number might as well be my name, so same thing.”
            Matt gave himself a sigh. She had a good point. “Then I’m Matt!”
            Yessenia looked away in annoyance, “Wow nobody cares.” She whispered to herself.
Everybody shrugged off Matt’s comment and Lt. Braus continued the conversation. “Hm, interesting pair. Are you going to oppose me as well?”
            Yessenia took notice of Matt kneeling over for the shovel below him. She began to glare at Lt. Braus as she waited. Other soldiers growled and one warned the lieutenant about Matt’s attempt to throw the shovel. Lt. Braus turned around and he focused on Matt while Yessenia picked up her rake but she knew the lieutenant would be expecting her move, so she ran towards Matt instead. Some soldiers tried to shoot at the soles of her feet but they barely missed.
            “Hold on, do not shoot!” yelled the lieutenant. He faced both Matt and Yessenia who were now next to each other. “Heh heh, you two are quite the troublesome kids. “Shall we try this again?” He took out his foil sword and readied it against his two opponents: Matt and Yessenia.
            Matt held tightly onto his shovel while Yessenia held onto her rake like a long sword. Lt. Braus went first with quick speed and he tried to stab Matt’s left side. Matt defended with his left body as well and Yessenia attempted to cut through the lieutenant with the fingers of the rake. Lt. Braus kicked Matt, causing the young boy to fall over. It took awhile for Matt to replenish from the fall. At that point, Yessenia went ahead and attempted to attack once again but Lt. Braus used his Guard ability to stop Yessenia’s attack with his own foil weapon. Yessenia was surprised at the fact that such a slim sword as a foil would be able to guard against a larger weapon such as a rake. The lieutenant made a backwards jump after having a clash of swords set into a draw.
            Matt was already exhausted from only attempting to attack. He was on the floor, trying to catch his breath. “Why is he easily protected from almost all of our attacks?”
            Yessenia took a step back closer to Matt. “Matt…” She whispered. Matt looked up at her. The whole crowd watched them whispering to each other.
            The lieutenant sighed. “This is ridiculous. They are obviously plotting something in secret.”
            “Get up now. We are going to make a run for it.” Yessenia commanded.
            Matt gasped. He tried to whisper back but his surprised facial expression made it almost obvious that Yessenia’s whispered plans were outrageous. “What?! Are you crazy? They’re going to shoot us down.”
            Yessenia was of course aware about the fact that there are soldiers everywhere. What they did not realize was that behind them was a crowd of peasants who were originally working for the concentration camp fields. Yessenia turned to them and all of the peasants were shocked at the same time. It appears that they were scared of Yessenia because of her rebellious attitude. Yessenia said to Matt, “We are going to run up to them and then we will make our way out by using those people. It is only a small distance so we will just pretend to take a few steps back.”
            Matt stood up from the painful kick that the lieutenant inflicted onto him. Afterwards, Matt began to take a step back while pretentiously trying to clench onto his shovel. All of the peasants from behind took steps as well. It was in sync with Matt’s steps to be exact. Matt rolled his eyes. “So much for a plan.”
            The lieutenant watched them carefully. One soldier asked, “Why aren’t we doing anything? They are acting very suspicious, lieutenant!”
            “Be quiet. This is quite interesting.” said Lt. Braus. The lieutenant held out his left hand over the soldiers.
            This gave Yessenia another idea. “I have a feeling that the lieutenant will not let them shoot.”
            “Why not? We’re right here and easy to kill.” Matt joked.
            “Do not say such things at a time like this.” She said with a serious tone. “Just make a run for it now.” Yessenia said with a quick pace. Matt paused for a moment, trying to get the thought into his mind. When it hit him, Yessenia was already running. The whole crowd was screaming and Matt realized that Yessenia told him to run for it.
            Matt jumped from surprise. “H-Hey, wait for me!” He followed her and the crowd was making another ruckus.
            Most of the soldiers yelled, telling the lieutenant that Matt and Yessenia are getting away. However, the lieutenant only laughed which was oddly strange. Of course, it was his job to not let any of the peasants escape. Following the crowd was the confused peasant boy who was frightened to see that Matt was running right into him. The petit little peasant teenage girl behind the boy was in awe as well. The both of them were not expecting a sudden clash. Matt fell over the both of them. All of them groaned from the fall. The crowd screamed even louder. The peasant boy dropped a book from his hand and Matt glared at it closely. There were pictures and words on the book that seemed a bit familiar, however Matt ignored it as he got up as quick as he could. Now was not the time to stagger. He had to make a run for it. Yessenia was a few ways up ahead and Matt tried to catch up to her.
            Yessenia said to Matt, “Can you keep up, you little girl?!”
            “What did you call me?! Of course I can!”
            “Well then hurry it up!” Yessenia taunted him to move faster. “I can see the clearing is almost there! The gate is left open for some odd reason!”
            One guard called for the other guard who was supposed to control the gates. “Close the gates, close the gates!” There was no response. “Where did he go?!”
            The lieutenant was very calm about the escape. He said to the soldiers, “Anyone want to follow them? One person is sufficient. Haha!”
            There was one guard who was eager to go. “I-I will! I can track them down easily.”
            The lieutenant watched as the guard was clenching his own fists. “You seem like you want to hurt them. I do not want to kill these poor peasant kids. Another person should suffice-…”
            “No! I will not. These fists will only pin them down, sir!”
            “Hm…” The soldiers all around them were quiet, waiting for his response. “Even for a guard and not even a soldier, you have guts. We’ll see how that will go! Haha! Go for it, young man.”
            The guard saluted. “I will, sir!” He began to chase after Matt and Yessenia.
            Lieutenant Braus laughed even louder this time. “This is very exciting!” The soldiers were wondering why such a tragic incident would even be comical at this time. “I cannot wait to see them again. They’ll probably be a lot stronger than who they are today.”
