Recently on Fires of the sky, the El Monte students returned to Earth only to find it still frozen. Without further delay, they were forced to attend as the six members for the challenges. After the challenge had finished, the final match had made a wrong turn. West Covina had taken over and their leader, Colonel Artemis, has trapped most of the students into the Eternal Nothingness. Much more importantly, are they able to escape the Eternal Nothingness?
Episode 258 – Arriving Together, Everyone is Checkmated!

            Last time on Fires of the Sky, Matt, Jaime, and Nix had gotten lost while trying to catch up to the rest of the group. To their surprise, they re-meet Claire, the girl who has the ability to link feelings together. She then tells Matt about Colonel Artemis’s last question. Meanwhile, Catt had lost to Benny and Sammy even without their sense links and they are now headed towards the first match where the El Monte students are stuck at. Venus had been checkmated but with Benny and Sammy getting closer, will they keep her at checkmate for good?

            “The building!!!!” Alex had his arms over his head. “This is not good, this is not good, this is not good!”
            Benny and Sammy had appeared from the portal in front of El Monte’s gate. Van pushed Maggie away. “H-Hey, did you hear that?”
            “I heard two more people coming from the portal.” Jon answered her instead. He ran over to the corner of the auditorium. “Look, it’s them, Benny and Sammy.”
            Winny clenched her fists. “Crap. They participated in the Elemental Challenges. They know that this auditorium is the tallest building, especially for Benny.”
            “Well, he won’t remember where it is now that it’s falling.” Maggie said.
            “But that’s the very reason why they should come here – because of the commotion.” Winny said.
            “Oh right. So in other words, we’re totally doomed.” Maggie said as her webs fell apart.
            Benny teleported in front of Shirley as he threw a dark ball through Shirley’s stomach. Shirley suddenly felt weaker. Yessenia and Alex were surprised. Of course, they have seen this before in the fifth match. Shirley began shivering on the cold ground. “Ergh… m-my body…”
            Benny slowly walked up to Yessenia and Alex who were still gripped onto Venus’s arms. “There’s a few more than just you two students, no?” He had his face close up to Alex’s face. “You know, for a whiney little kid, you sure have lasted this far. I’m impressed. But, you know, I can have Venus kill you now. Once the ice melts, Venus will crush your necks in an instant.”
            He then walked up towards Yessenia’s face, “And for a strong woman, I’m not so surprised. You are the most dependable one in the group but it’s too bad you can’t move anymore. Think of Venus’s ice as a time limit. Once it stops melting, you’re both doomed.”
            Alex coughed. “W-Why don’t you just kill us now then?”
            “Do you want me to do that?”
            “It was just a question.”
            “Well, because I know how to spend my time wisely. During the time when you two can’t do anything, I might as well…” He then teleported away. “pick on the weaker students who are still around!”
            Van and Maggie were suddenly attacked by Benny and two dark balls passed through the girls. They felt weakened and the building was still on the verge of collapsing. Benny then kicked another dark ball towards the building which made it explode completely. Now it is for sure that the building is gone and the portal is still in midair. “I’m sorry, was the portal what you were aiming for? I’m afraid you can’t reach it anymore!”
            Winny kicked the ground with her serious personality. “You’re not getting away with this!” Jon uselessly stood behind her. Benny jumped away and Winny began ravaging against the floor. “Even without the love of my life, I can defeat you!”
            “But Changmin was just a tenni-…” Jon was interrupted when Benny teleported behind him.
            Benny threw two more dark balls towards Jon. He pushed Winny away. “Watch out, get away!” He suddenly felt weakened as he fell to the ground.
            Benny laughed. “Bahaha! Just one more!” He stared at Winny.
            Sammy stood there, watching. “Standing here foretells me that our victory will be completed.”
            Shirley tried to sit upwards. “Loser…”
            “What?”
            “Yeah, you. I thought you were a nice girl. I don’t care what you’ve been through. I don’t care how much you’ve changed. You don’t deserve to be sympathized over. People who are strong would withstand anything even under the toughest circumstances. Come on, moving over ten times? Have your parents ever abused you as a child?”
            Alex gasped. “Shirley…”
            “Did they? They only hurt you mentally but that’s nothing compared to all of the physical pain I’ve been through. Even through all that pain, I knew my parents still loved me and I’m sure yours still love you even today! Did you see me before? I still put on a smile for everybody as if there was nothing wrong. I was strong to hold it in and stay on the good side. I don’t know what happened to you. You’re just weak!”
            Sammy said angrily, “You better shut your mouth!” She took out a dagger. Shirley then mindlessly froze the ground and then she froze the plants beside her. She was smart to confuse Sammy so that her foretelling powers would go haywire. With Winny still alive, Sammy had to focus on not getting double-teamed. Shirley then went for Sammy’s hands, which she then froze…
            The weight of the ice caused Sammy to kneel down. “G-Get this stupid ice off of me!”
            Alex was surprised. “Wow! Way to go, Shirley!”
            Shirley was close to fainting. “I think… that’s the last amount of energy I have for my powers…” She thought to herself. “That damn Benny, taking all of my energy away. I shouldn’t have wasted it like Alex said. It would have been great to create an ice staircase for everybody so that they could reach the portal.”
            Alex could see Shirley hallucinating. Shirley closed her eyes, thinking one last time, “Everyone… I leave… the rest to you.”
            Yessenia tried to look through her peripheral vision. It seems as though Benny and Sammy had brought Catt along, who was totally fainted as well. As she could see, only she herself, Alex, and Winny were still able to move. The other students either fainted, or they have lost their energy to move on. Sammy said to the two students who were still gripped by Venus’s robotic hands. “Pathetic. It looks like we came here while seven of you were able to stand, now there are only three of you. Counting you two out for being unable to fight, only that girl with the green hair can battle but she’s challenging Benny. This is an automatic loss right here.”
            Yessenia and Alex watched as Benny brutally beat Winny down to the ground. She could no longer move. Benny laughed with an evil tone. “Ahahaha! That was too easy! These kids are all talk but no power.” He then walked towards Alex and Yessenia. “And then there were two – who can’t even move.”
            Alex placed his hands together. Benny threw a small dark ball at his hands. “Nuh uh uh, you can’t make a move.”
            Alex could not feel his hands anymore. He felt weakened. “Augh… Damn you…”
            “How does it feel? Having your hands lose energy but your mind is still intact.” He then said to Sammy, “Should we wait and watch them squirm around until the ice melts?”
            Sammy suddenly gasped. “No, there is something that I can foretell. Kill them now before it is too late.”
            “Now? Aw, but that’s not fun. Why can’t we just watch them for a little while? It’s hilarious!”
            “NO! Do it n-…” The building completed its collapse which made a loud rumbling noise behind them. The two West Covina students had to cover their ears for this.
            After several seconds of the noise, Benny sighed. “That was your warning? That was nothing…”
            Sammy could not move her hands. “I can’t kill them. Only you can! Just do it now.”
            A large fireball past through Benny. Benny almost slipped away. “W-What the?!”
~~~
            Matt, Jaime, Nix, and Claire appeared. Matt suddenly created another giant fireball. Jaime pointed at Venus, “Careful, don’t want to burn the ice there.”
            Benny was too quick for Claire to catch him. Instead, she linked Sammy’s feelings with someone like Shirley’s. Sammy began screaming. “AHHHH!!!! It hurts!!! My energy!” Her hair began to curl over her face.
            Claire giggled. “What’s wrong?”
            “Why have you changed sides?!”
            “I did not. You two are not doing your jobs properly. We are here to interrogate the El Monte students, and they have answered the question as honest as they could. Tell me, with your foretelling powers, what victory do you see?”
            “Still West Covina’s victory.” Sammy clenched her teeth.
            Nix pounced on Sammy several times. “You’re a liar, you’re a liar!”
            Benny tried to attack Matt and Jaime at the same time with a dark ball. Jaime jumped away and Matt glided. Matt looked at the portal. “Hey, I could leave right now.”
            Alex yelled at him, “Now’s not the time to be joking around!!!”
            Matt then flew back down and then he tried to give Benny a punch. “Two against one? That is unfair.” Benny said as he teleported each time he was about to get attacked.
            “Says the guy who has been playing unfair since the beginning!” Matt continued to cast more fire attacks at him. Jaime had his Shadow Ninjas and his own Shadow Duplication ready, knowing that he should also conserve his powers just in case.
            Sammy eventually fainted which caused Yessenia to be concerned. “W-Wait. Even if Sammy is either lying or telling the truth, now we cannot get insight on who is victory.”
            Claire tried to aim for Benny who could not stay still at all. “Come on, aim for the right person and as long as I get Benny, this will all be over.”
            Benny teleported behind Claire and then he threw a dark ball behind her. She felt light-headed. Jaime’s duplication kicked him away and Matt a few Fire Missiles that struck him. While Claire was almost unable to use her powers, she could not aim for Benny. Benny was slightly weakened as well.
            Claire said to Jaime, “I will… have to use my link powers on someone who is more stable and standing still.” She looked at Venus. “I shall link your feelings to hers. Maybe then, she will gain her senses.”
            Alex tried to clap his hands. “That’s a good idea! I’d clap, but my hands are exhausted thanks to SOMEBODY.” He glared at Benny.
            Jaime stood in between Claire and Venus. “Wait. There is no need for that.” He watched Venus who was still trying to break free from the melting ice.
            Alex rolled his eyes. “Oh come on, we’re almost winning. The ice is about to melt any time soon. Have Claire finish the work!”
            Nix agreed with Jaime. “Jaime is right. If Claire uses her powers again, she will go over her limit and die. This is all Benny’s fault.”
            Jaime stared at Venus’s struggled face. “I will have to deal with this myself.”
~~~
            Jaime slowly headed towards Venus. At the same time, Matt made sure Benny did not do anything sneaky. Benny and Venus were the only opposing side who were still awake. Sammy had eventually fainted once she felt the same pain as Shirley. She understood how Shirley felt from physical abuse, slightly before she fainted herself.
            With only Yessenia, Alex, Claire, and Benny being unable to attack, Jaime was the only one who could change Sammy’s foretelling. Yessenia whispered to Alex, “If what Sammy said was a lie, then this should go well.”
            “Of course she was lying. Now she can’t even foretell for us which is good. She can’t jinx it!”
            “Venus,” Jaime said as softly as he could, “remember me?”
            Venus only glared at him. She wanted to use her laser eyes but she was already malfunctioning when Yessenia and Alex knocked her a few times before they were gripped onto the neck. “Vermin!” It was the only response she could give to Jaime.
            “Can you still hear me?” Jaime asked, but Venus still did not respond. “Heh, I know you can of course. What a dumb question. Listen, I think you should come back to us in one piece. We all miss you and it’s tough moving on without you.” Still, there was no answer. “We’ve had so many great adventures with each other and I really don’t want that to be the end of us now. I still think you are human, no matter how robotic they claim you are.”
            Venus slowly stopped clenching her teeth. “Silence, fiend!”
            “It ain’t going to work.” Benny said. “Stop shitting around with your small talk. She’s not going to listen to you!”
            “If you come back, we’ll treat you the same! We’ll forget about all of this because we know and understand that this is not the real you. The real Venus is sweet, kind, funny, outgoing… and beautiful.”
            Alex began to cry again. Yessenia also had tears in her eyes. Benny laughed. “Did you guys hear how corny that sounded?!”
            Matt kicked him down. “Shut up already. I’m tired of your babbling!”
            Claire thought about them carefully. “These El Monte students don’t need to be linked to understand each other. They… care for each other a lot.” She said to herself.
            Venus paused. Even with a completely straight face like hers, a small tear ran down her face.
