The final world has finally opened up. The world of Edmund is gray and gloomy as ever. Memory losses have become an issue, but death is a more important factor to take note of. Each power wielder now has to face the truth as to why they are who they are. Are some born different? Many people would want to show their worth to the world while one may claim that saving the world is the most important ordeal to go through. Many students will show their impact and reason through existence, past, and of course, Rena’s storytelling. Of course, she has lots to tell but there is little time left. What will the group decide to do next in the world of Edmund…?
Episode 93 - Enjoyment of Six Flags, Journey through a Rainy Front
“Thank you, Matt’s brother.” Winny closed the door of a car. The car drove away and she grabbed Matt’s arm, “Let’s go.”
Matt resisted. “I’m having second thoughts about this!”
Matt fell to the floor but Winny was still holding onto his arm. She dragged him to the entrance, “Two tickets!”
The man in the booth stared down at Matt. “Um… Two, okay. Here you go.”
Winny took the tickets as they entered the theme park. “We’re finally here at Six Flags! Remember, we are here for Santi and the awards ceremony so we should have fun. I don’t understand why you don’t want to go anymore.”
“I really did want to go. It’s just that I realized Stan is here… also, Peter too and we don’t know how much he knows about us already.”
“Calm down. Let’s go look for Santi.”
~~~
In the Choir group, Santi stood next to Peter, talking about whatever goes to mind. Stan was behind them, trying to mind his own business. It did occur to Santi that Stan was just a few steps away but he could not say anything to Stan as there are many people surrounding them. They both pretended as if nothing is going on. Matt and Winny arrived at the nearest roller coaster from Santi. Santi waved at them and Matt suddenly stopped after seeing Stan.
Winny dragged Matt over and Stan glared at them. Santi pointed at the ferris wheel, “Look at that! Who wants to go up there?”
“I do.” Winny answered.
In an attempt to get away from Stan, Matt rose his hand, “Oh me too.” After several rides, the group became tired and then they decided to wander around. There was a shop with useless accessories which Winny’s giddy side spazzed over. Santi picked up a fuzzy domo figure and he held it up to his face.
“I like this.” Santi laughed.
Peter took out his camera, “Hey, take a picture with it!”
Matt took a look at his cellphone and a call came from Rena. Winny gritted her teeth and Peter took a picture of Santi, Winny and Matt in one try. Matt looked up, “Huh what?”
Santi pointed at himself in the picture, “Great! Hey Matt, what were you doing?”
Matt hid his cellphone, “Uh, nothing. Let’s go get something to eat.”
Stan watched them walk off. “Matt is not even letting me befriend others…”
At the tables, the group became full from their food. They had a bunch of extra fries as they began throwing the food at each other. Matt was still busy trying to finish his food. “Can you guys not throw them over here?”
Santi threw a piece of ice at Matt, “Have fun a little, Matt!”
Matt got angry as he threw a French fry back at Santi but Santi avoided it and the food flew roughly onto the back of a woman with dreadlocks. She turned around in surprise as she screamed, “Who in the hell?!”
Matt jumped, “Geh-!” Matt stood up and he walked away in annoyance. “I need to keep my temper low…” He remembered his conversation with Santi at the Dodger Stadium a few days ago. “Santi’s right… I should just enjoy being around people before the days end. Who knows if it is really true that Santi will survive or not? I’m going to find a way.” He remembered the phone call he received from Rena. He decided to call her.
“Hi Matt, thanks for calling back.” Rena said.
“Yeah, what happened?”
“Stan is not in Edmund. You’re free to visit before it’s too late.”
Matt realized that Stan is clearly with his group at Six Flags, “Oh right. Hm. Okay, I’ll go tell Winny and Santi. Did you tell the others?”
“I tried to but all of them are busy with family-related stuff. You three seem busy at an amusement park though.”
“I’ll go talk to Santi and Winny about it. You’ll sense us at Edmund if we decide to go, okay?” Matt suggested while Rena agreed to it. Matt took a look around after returning to his group of friends. “We should go check out the magic show!”
“It should be in a building nearby, according to this map.” Santi held onto a Six Flags 2008 map, “Does everybody want to go?”
Peter grinned, “Eh. I’m not into magic shows. They could be fake. I want to go on a rollercoaster.”
Stan followed Peter, “Same here. I’d rather go on a rollercoaster.”
Matt thought to himself, “Works for me.”
Winny turned to her giddy form, “I want to go on a rollercoaster too!”
Matt interrupted her, “No you don’t.” Winny frowned and she looked at Matt with her puppy-dog eyes. Matt made a quick wink at her and Winny gasped, “Oh right. We won’t be able to see magic shows that often so I guess I’ll go.” Santi knew what Matt wanted to talk about so he followed along.
~~~
At the magic show, Winny crossed her arms, “Okay, what do you want now?”
Matt took out his cellphone, “Now’s our chance to visit Edmund really quick. Rena said the preparations are ready.”
Winny sighed, “You want us to go right now? We’re supposed to have fun.”
Santi took a look at his watch, “We only have about 45 minutes before the ceremony for Choir begins. We won’t finish wandering around in time anyway. Besides, Edmund might be even more interesting, right?”
Winny tapped her right foot as she began to think. “Hm… I guess you’re right. We should go take a visit then, but only for a quick while.”
Matt jumped, “Yes! Edmund, the gray world, here we come!”
~~~
Edmund, the darkest world yet. It was dark, the sky was sprinkling, the clouds were all of the same color with shades of dark gray, and buildings were old. The buildings were so old that Matt, Santi and Winny could still recognize them even after 600 years in the future. Matt took a few steps forward. “Hm, so this is the year 2608? I expected more out of this place.”
Winny examined the building that they were on. “We’re on the second floor somewhere.”
Matt followed Winny to the edge. They could see a train driving by the forested road. Santi pointed at the train, “There is a train. But can you guess what building this is?”
Matt ran back to the center and he looked through the large windows. There were workers inside passing out schedules for the train. “This does look really familiar. The buildings are too old to tell but…” Matt turned around and he noticed a bunch of broken stone stairs but the escalators were working just fine. “Wait a minute!” Matt ran down the broken stairs and he turned in a 360 circle. “This whole place seems familiar.” Winny and Santi followed him downstairs. Matt touched the two vending machines, “Yeah, I remember now. This is the bus station.”
“Exactly. You are correct.” Santi crossed his arms.
Matt was walking into the tunnel, “But how is this possible? Why are there trains instead of buses now?”
“That is just how the future works.” Santi explained. “600 years can easily change the way this station works. I am just surprised that most of the building is even here still.”
Matt began coughing. He was getting a bit tired already. “Are you alright?” Winny asked.
“Yeah, I’m fine. I think the small rain is getting to me.” He took a deep breath.
Santi remembered the limited condition that Matt had against the rain due to his fire powers. He decided to help Matt head for a canopy. “This should keep you a little safe. As long as the sprinkling won’t get to you, you are fine.”
“Thanks. But from what this whole world looks like, will Edmund be raining all the time?”
“Doubt it.” Winny answered him. “If that was true, then we would have a flood and the world won’t even be stable. That’s pretty lucky considering how you can’t handle the rain.
Matt quickly jumped up in excitement, “Hey! Since we’re at the bus stop, El Monte High School is only a few minutes away. Can we take a visit?”
“Yeah but that’s if your body can handle the rain.” Winny said with a grin.
“If I can’t, then I can just teleport back to Six Flags. It will be no problem!”
“You’re on.” Winny nodded. “Then let’s hurry our way to our high school.”
~~~
The group of three arrived at the front entrance of El Monte. Matt ran into the small shed where there would be a worker sitting inside. Matt gave a huge sigh as he said to himself, “Phew! I’m super tired.”
Winny and Santi were standing right outside. Santi opened his palm to feel the level of rain falling from the sky, “It is still sprinkling, so you are in luck. Sometimes I get the feeling that often, it rains harder than this.”
Matt shivered, “Yeah, but it’s kind of cold. Even the rainy weather is overpowering the heat that I have.” At that moment, Matt could see a young boy holding an older woman’s left hand. Matt pointed, “There are people here right now!”
Santi jumped, “What in the world?”
The young boy was alerted by Matt’s yelp, “Huh?”
Matt gasped. “Oh- shoot, sorry. I-I didn’t mean to scare you.” Matt looked away and the boy decided to speak up.
“Do you go here?” He asked.
Matt shook his head, “Of course I do!”
Winny slapped Matt on the face, “Shut up. No you don’t.”
Matt realized that Edmund is not where he attends his high school. “Oh, right. I was just kidding. I wonder if your names are weird even in the future. What is yours?”
Winny said to herself, “What manners…”
The little boy was about to speak but Santi interrupted him, “I am terribly sorry, dear lady.” Santi spoke to the older woman. “My friend is very excited to meet new people here because he is visiting from… somewhere far.”
The woman giggled, “Oh, that’s fine. This is my younger brother. He’s gonna come here as a high school student in a few years. I take it that you’re all visitors?”
Winny nodded, “Yes, we are.”
Santi waved goodbye at them, “We are about to leave too, right Matt? Let us visit other places in this school.”
Matt frowned, “Aw this is goodbye to Edmund people already?”
Winny pushed Matt away so that he could hurry through the rain. “We don’t need to meddle with other people anymore.” While Matt was being pushed by Winny, Matt turned his head to see Santi talking to the two people whom they just spoke to.
“What is Santi doing?” Matt wondered.
“I have no idea. He is probably apologizing to them because you were being a bit too awkward.”
“I’m awkward? No way!”
“And you’re a bit too shy, but that’s not the problem at the moment. What you want to do is visit El Monte, so we will do that.” Winny dragged Matt around.
While Matt was being dragged, he said to himself, “If only I could do that without having to be treated like a dog…”
~~~
After a few minutes of looking through the buildings, Matt became confused. “Isn’t it strange how Edmund’s El Monte still looks just like our El Monte even after 600 years?
“Strange indeed.” Winny said bluntly.
Matt, Winny and Santi could see the young boy and his sister at a distance. Matt waved at them, “It’s those people again! I should say sorry.” Matt ran up to them without warning.
Winny tried to stop him, “No, don’t-…”
“It cannot be helped. I just hope that kid knows what he is doing.” Santi closed his eyes in shame.
“Which kid?” Winny joked.
“Not Matt.” Santi was serious, however.
Matt ran in front of the young boy, “I’m so sorry for making you guys a bit scared. I just like it here in El Monte. I can’t believe I’m here in this world!” Matt tried to tone down his interest because that would give away the fact that Matt was from another world. “I’m Matt.”
The young boy gave out his hand for a handshake, “I’m… Willy.”
The woman laughed, “My brother’s a shy one. It might not matter to you, but I’m Stinna.”
Matt scratched his head. “Stinna? Names really are weird here.”
“Excuse me?”
“Never mind. I was thinking out loud. Well, I’ll be going now. See you guys next time if there’s a next time!” He waved goodbye as he ran back to Winny and Santi. “See! I’m not shy.”
“You were forcing yourself.” Winny said.
“Well whatever then.” Matt was annoyed but he knew Winny did not mean to insult Matt.
Santi watched them. He seemed to be thinking about something, perhaps something very important. He showed despair, but it was unclear as to why he felt this way. “…” was the only thing that was in his mind.
Matt began coughing again. “I’ve been in the rain a bit too long. I think I should go back to the real world. Look at the time, the ceremony is almost starting anyway, right?”
Santi took a look at his watch, “You are right. I guess we should go back with you. The longer we stay here, the more likely Stan will figure out where we were.”
~~~
The ceremony did go well and smooth. Both Stan and Peter did not suspect Matt, Santi or Winny. The only downside of the situation was that El Monte was not first place for the choir group which Santi was in. That was nothing to Santi, however. All he wanted was to be with his friends.
