Episode 248 - El Monte Fights Back, Winny Versus Pilfer!

Recently on Fires of the sky, the El Monte students returned to Earth only to find it still frozen. As they return to Arkon’s Magic, the six main students, Matt, Yessenia, Jaime, Alex, Venus, and Winny all enter a bridge that leads them to the Elemental Challenges! Without further delay, they were forced to attend as the six members for the challenges. After the challenge had finished, the final match had made a wrong turn. West Covina had taken over and their leader, Colonel Artemis, has trapped most of the students into the Eternal Nothingness. With an urge to escape, the students struggle against West Covina and almost every one of them have lost brutally. Will they be able to make a comeback? Much more importantly, are they able to escape the Eternal Nothingness?
Episode 248 – El Monte Fights Back, Winny Versus Pilfer!

            The final march had already gone its way into loss. Each El Monte student, in their own way, lost in their battles against the West Covina students in the Eternal Nothingness. Shirley’s heart had stopped after her loss against Flynn, a man who can deplete existence through memories. Yessenia struggled to stop Alvin’s scythe magic which was used at an advantage over Jon’s shadow. This disallowed him to cast his own Dispel magic. Jaime and Winny remained intact, but Winny’s Changmin ball could be otherwise. Matt and Dragon had joined paths to alert their respective friends to stop the war, but not a single ally could be found.
Meanwhile, Irene had surprisingly lost against her battle with Catt. However, Catt had become guilty from her tactics in victory by using Emmy to her advantage. Alex, Romeo, and Siyun all failed to stop Geddon’s Golem ability while Maggie and Layla lost their will to battle due to Claire’s Link ability. All that is left to wonder – is the assassination of Venus and the existence of Benny. As Sammy had already predicted, she knows that El Monte may come to an end.
 ~~~
            Winny watched as her Changmin ball popped into several pieces due to Pilfer’s Spike ability. Even Jaime, who had always judged her tennis ball, was surprised. Winny began to stutter. “W-Why… did you…?”
            Pilfer did not hesitate to make another sudden attack following his destructive sunder towards the Changmin ball. Jaime casted a shadow in front of Winny in order to deflect incoming attacks. Pilfer stabbed through the shadow and even Jaime fell over from the impact of the shadow. “Winny, run away!”
            Without her Changmin ball, Winny became slower due to her astonishment of her Changmin ball. Pilfer stabbed through her hair. He then punched Winny on the stomach followed by an uppercut to the chin. She flew upwards and Jaime summoned a Shadow Duplication in order to catch her fall. Once Jaime’s shadow grabbed onto Winny, Pilfer kicked Jaime on the chest as his shadow ability vanished for a second.
            Pilfer then jumped away and he created a thousand smaller needles in mid-air. Jaime gasped. “Winny! Look out!”
            Each of the spikes did not necessarily stab through Winny as Pilfer purposely wanted to laugh in her pain. One after another, Winny tried to grasp for safety. After the 20th needle, Jaime tried to replenish his energy as he casted a Shadow Ball at Pilfer. Pilfer threw a wrecking ball, which consisted of sharp, silver points, at the shadow ball. Pilfer laughed. “You think you can stop me? My spikes can break through anything! Ha ha!” He quickly ran towards Jaime while slicing through any attacks that Jaime tried to create.
            Jaime watched as Pilfer was getting too close. “It’s too late!” Jaime thought. He closed his eyes, ready to die in that moment. Everything suddenly became quiet. Jaime slowly opened his eyes to see that Pilfer was getting strangled by a dark aura.
            Pilfer began coughing out blood. “W-What is this?!?!” The Dark Aura forcefully threw Pilfer backwards onto the ground. The dirt ground crackled into several pieces from Pilfer’s forceful fall.
            The Dark Aura vanished into Winny with her hair covering her face. Jaime panicked. “The Ring?! No… She has short hair!”
            “First you destroy my beloved man, and then you dare to attack a woman, and then you try to kill my friend?”
            Jaime looked away. “Tch, I could have saved myself.”
            Pilfer disregarded Jaime’s comment. “Where did you get that power?!” He said as his head was bleeding.
            Winny said nothing. Jaime could figure that it had come from her rage and her loss of Changmin. “Has he had this power all along?” He asked himself. “It must be true. Besides Luther, her ultimate weakness, she had not lost a battle up until this moment when she is forced to fight back.”
            Winny’s Dark Aura healed her pains as she sped towards Pilfer. Her eyes were dark and it filled with anger and tears. She punched him several times until he was no longer seen on ground level. It looked as if she had several arms when she attacked him at a quick pace. “The question is, why has she never used such power? Overpowered strength doesn’t just come out of nowhere when you’re in danger, does it?” Jaime wondered.
            Pilfer quickly lost his will to fight as he fainted (a bit too much actually). Winny’s aura vanished and then she fell to the ground, also fainting due to her excess power. Jaime quickly headed towards her to see if she was breathing. “This can’t be good. That power was extremely high.” He checked if her heart was beating. “She might have gone over her capacity just like Santi!”
 ~~~
            Matt noticed a girl lying on the ground. There was a familiar-looking man nearby who was digging a large hole with his armed drill. “Hey Dragon, fly down there!” Dragon suddenly flew down full-speed ahead and Nix had to hold onto Maggie who was still fainted from her surprised fall. Matt had to glide after a while. “Damn it, not that fast!”
            “I guess you can’t handle my speed.”
            “What?” Matt asked stupidly.
            Sith became alert. He turned around and then he made a stance on all fours. “Who are you?”
            “Hey, he looks familiar.” Matt said casually.
            Nix whispered to him, “I don’t think you understand the situation here. He’s ready to attack you, Matt!”
            “Oh yeah. Why? We’re harmless!”
            “Express yourself!” Sith commanded.
            Matt became insulted. “Hey, I am expressing myself. I have a personality, you know!”
            “That’s not what he meant!” Dragon punched Matt in the head as he said to Sith, “We are just surprised to see others here. I am Dragon, a member from-…”
            Matt interrupted him, “He’s a friend of mine. I’m Matt from El Monte.”
            “El Monte?” Sith turned around as he noticed Shirley’s pale skin. “Matt, you say. I suppose you know this girl?” Sith stood up on two legs as he pointed behind him. “Her heart recently stopped beating and her skin turned pale. She… must have passed away a while ago.”
            Matt’s eyes opened widely. “No way.” He hastily headed over to Shirley. “This can’t be!”
            Nix began to cry. “Shirley? Please tell me you’re alive.”
            Matt began shaking her. “Come on, wake up! This can’t be happening!” He began to listen to her heartbeat. There was none. “No…”
            Dragon clenched his fists. “(Matt recently just gained hope right after losing it… and now this has to happen?)”
            Sith continued to dig a hole. “Giving her a proper burial is the only way. Matt, I apologize that I could not make it in time to save her.”
            “What the hell is this?!” Matt said in anger. “I’ve tried to save my friends, and they fall one by one like this! How many times does this have to happen?! Erica, Mariel, Santi, Je-…”
            “Wait.” Dragon said.
            “What is it now?!” Matt yelled at him.
            “A scent started brewing.” Dragon then pointed at Shirley. “The scent… of warm blood.”
            Nix began sniffing the air. “Ooh… you’re right. Even I can scent it now.”
            “What are you talking about?” Matt questioned.
            “Listen again.” Dragon said to him.
            Matt placed his ear onto Shirley’s chest. Her heart was beating slowly, but faster. Shirley began to cough. Matt crawled backwards. “H-Hey, she became a zombie!!!”
            “No, you idiot!” Dragon punched him again. “Tell me, what power does she have?”
            “Ice? I guess.” Matt shrugged. Shirley tried to open her eyes but she couldn’t. Matt became confused. “What’s the point of asking?”
            Dragon shook his head. “I figured out what happened. One of my friends must have attacked her and she went out cold.”
            “She went out cold? What kind of terrible pun was that?” Matt rolled his eyes.
            “It wasn’t supposed to be a pun! The point is, she must have altered her body ahead of time and she froze her heart.”
            Sith thought about the function of her body carefully. “That would explain why she is so pale, but wouldn’t a lack of blood cause problems throughout her whole body, especially to her brain?”
            Nix agreed with him. “The tasty bug-looking guy is right!”
            “What did you say?!” Sith blushed in anger.
            Dragon added, “She must have frozen the most important organs in her body, including her brain. Luckily with her ice powers, she can shape-shift the texture of ice so that it doesn’t directly damage the brain. Her heart must have warmed the ice faster when you came by, Matt. Your friendship link must be strong if she was able to restore herself this quickly.” Shirley’s eyes began to open and she was able to move her fingers now. Slowly, she was regaining her body.
            Matt was amazed. “Our friendship link? It was that strong?”
            “You don’t even know?!” Nix exclaimed.
            Shirley began speaking. “Matt? Nix?”
            “We’re right here. I can’t believe you’re alright!” Matt said happily. “I almost thought you were a goner.” Matt began having tears run down his eyes.
            Shirley smiled. “I’m… okay. I just need a little more time to rest. How are the others?”
            “I don’t know yet. We are searching for everybody but it’s taking a very long time.”
            Shirley looked away in shame. “I’m sorry that I couldn’t beat that man… I feel so useless.”
            “No, you’re not useless. You’ve tried your best, I know that! You risked your life to fight against them.”
            Sith gave a smirk. “Heh, for a friend of Emmy’s, you are really smart for freezing your organs ahead of time.”
            “What else could I do if I wasn’t able to win?” Shirley smiled. “AIY! You’re the scary-looking guy from Arroyo! You could be even scarier than that Flynn guy I fought.”
            “Flynn? My friend did this to you?” Dragon said.
            Sith suddenly pointed his armed sword at him. “What did you say?”
            Matt made flames appear from his fists as he pointed them at Sith. “Don’t hurt him, he didn’t do anything wrong! He was just misinformed!”
            The three students were in a triangle effect. Nix was floating in mid-air, worrying about the oucome. “Y-You guys…”
            Shirley began coughing again. She was able to sit up this time. “Everyone, please calm down.” She spoke to them, “If that guy with the horns-…”
            “Dragon.” Dragon said.
            “Yeah whatever. If Dragon is here and he is harmless, then all we can do now is trust each other even if we are all rivals.”
            Sith still had his sword pointed at Dragon. “But if Dragon is not our enemy while his friends are out there defeating all of us, then who are the enemies?”
            Dragon closed his eyes. “I admit my friends are also misinformed. So as of right now, they are our enemies and that’s why I want to find them! I want to tell them this was all a huge mistake catered by Colonel Artemis.”
            Shirley stood up. She patted her clothes and then she took off her bow from her hair. Her hair curled downwards to her shoulders and back. “At any rate, we need to find that Colonel Artemis guy then. I want to know what the hell he wants! And of course, who he really is.”
            Matt agreed with her. “You’re right! We have to continue onward and find everybody else.”
            Nix cheered. “Yay! We’re going to find more of our friends!”
            Sith rolled his eyes. “Whatever suits you, but I still do not trust this man.” He said to Dragon.
            Dragon shrugged. “It’s alright, I understand.” He said lastly before the group began to walk instead, now that the group has enlarged.
 ~~~
            Claire remained in the laboratory where both Venus and Layla were out cold. Venus was still in the capsule in front of Claire. “All bodily functions and systems are just about complete. A new human is born.” She said as she looked at Venus who was in her white robe. She then broke the spirit link between Layla and Venus before the awakening. “The time is now!”
            Layla opened her eyes slowly. She pretended to stay dead. “(What is she doing? I remember back in the last match, they wanted to kill Venus. Why are they reawakening her?)”
            The capsule shattered into several pieces and the bacterial water dispersed all over the floor. Layla quickly stood up as she ran towards the exit nearby. “Damn it!” She tried to use her hair magic by breaking through the floor but the bacteria from the water burned her hair. Layla took a step back. “What the hell is this supposed to be?!”
            “So you are alive.” Claire turned to her while Venus floated to the ground. Claire then linked Layla with an inanimate object such as the machine nearby. Layla suddenly fell back to sleep. “We don’t need any more bickering from the enemies. With the help of Colonel Artemis… we will fight and take back our liberty – the freedom from these powers that continue to haunt us.” She said to Layla, “Your eternal sleep begins today. But… Venus’s rebirth has just begun.” She giggled while watching Venus finally open her eyes again.
