Episode 163 - Battle at the Highway, the Power of Friendship

As the protagonist group entered Wisteria, all of them have split apart into several groups, each fighting different antagonists of Wisteria. Alex and Van had a draw while Peter and Maggie agreed to put their complications aside. Amy and Jenny have taken a rest from their battle while William lost against Shirley and Huy through their bond. Lastly, Yessenia and Omar had a crucial battle where Yessenia had to use all her might in order to win. Matt and Shirl therefore concluded their own battle after Shirl had come to her senses. At this moment, Alex used a forbidden spell that could possibly injure his magical essence. Cataclysm was the name of the spell. What will Matt decide now that Wisteria is in a definite state of loss?
Episode 163 – Battle at the Highway, the Power of Friendship

            The Cataclysm continued to splash through the while city of Wisteria. Near the end of the tide, Huy was thrown against a pole, followed by Shirley being thrown against him, and then William after Shirley. Matt and Shirl were nearby the group of three along with the whole area with Alex and the antagonists. Yessenia and Omar stopped short by a large house right below the highway. Maggie and Peter were getting closer to the highway. Van was left at an empty field about half a mile away from the highway where everybody else was at.
 ~~~
            At the actual battlefield with Tony, Alex was lying on the ground without holding a single breath. He was completely out cold. Michael made his eyebrow shield vanish. He held tightly onto Alice while the Cataclysm was flowing moments ago. Tony and Jaime both used their shadow powers to protect themselves in a veil of shadow while the water flew past them. Michael said slowly, “W-What… magical power.” He was amazed, but also surprised at how Alex could have done such a thing even after he was almost out of energy to begin with.
            Alice said to Michael, “Dang it. Is Alex okay?” She tried to run towards him but Tony threw a shadow in front of her. She was pushed back onto the ground.
            “Do not move.” Tony said in a threatening tone.
            “Tch!” Alice had a few scratches on her face. “You can’t tell me what to do. It’s like you’ve changed since middle school.”
            “Nobody’s going to get in my way. I need to find the strongest person. The strongest one, to kill all those South El Monte students!” He created an extremely large shadow, the same height as Alex’s cataclysm.
            Jaime did not know what to say. He still only stood there. From the cataclysm, Matt finally woke up. “Mm…” He moaned.
 ~~~
            Jenny was shaking Amy’s arms from the top of the Wisterian buildings. “Amy, Amy! Please, wake up. We are in danger.”
            Amy twitched and then she rubbed her eyes. “Hm… Huh?”
            “Wisteria looks like it’s getting worse.” Jenny pointed at the floor from high above. “The whole city looks a lot messier than before. And over there! That dark shadow!”
            Amy sat up as quick as possible. “Whoa! Don’t tell me everything’s… not working?”
            Jenny grabbed Amy’s hands, “Amy, we should run over there, fast! Tony might still be on the run and we must stop him.”
            Amy blushed. She was glad to see that Jenny’s innocent, sparkly eyes showed compassion to stop Tony, to be on Matt’s side. “Mhm!” Amy nodded with pride.
 ~~~
            Tony’s large shadow followed him as he walked towards Alex. “I don’t know what your problem is.” He said to Alex. “It’s like you value human life, even to those who are weak.” Alice and Michael listened carefully. “If vermin like you cannot even survive against the strong…” Jaime was about to open his mouth. “Then why still live?!” Tony made the shadow fly towards Alex like a spear.
            Alice closed her eyes. “Oh no!!” She screamed. Jaime looked away and Michael tried to make a sword out of his eyebrow but he was too slow!
            At that moment, the shadow stopped. It struck against something really quickly. “What’s this?!” Tony was astonished.
            “… ‘Then why still live’?” The voice said. “You think surviving Earth for fifteen years is worth nothing? You think Alex does not deserve to live? You think anybody weaker than you doesn’t deserve to live at all?!” Matt had a Fire Shield in between himself and Tony. Nix was also next to him.
            “Oh. It’s you.” Tony jumped away.
            “Matt!” Alice smiled with a blush.
            Matt made the Fire Shield go away. His eyes were the color of flames and his aura was completely red, also mixed with orange and yellow. “Why should we even bother to fight each other?” William, Shirley, and Huy woke up from their exhaustion from battle. “Can’t you just find another way to figure out who is the strongest student in El Monte?” Yessenia and Omar could hear him from below the highway. “Instead, we should be helping each other become stronger all at once. Because…” Jaime turned back to the scenery. “WE ARE ALL FROM EL MONTE!!” Matt yelled in anger. Jaime’s eyes widened even more.
            “M-Matt…!” Jaime thought in his mind.
            Omar looked up at the sky. “That kid’s got guts speaking up to Tony like that.” Yessenia watched the highway. She chuckled a bit.
            Tony clenched his teeth. He was silent for a moment. Alice clapped her hands together “That’s right! We’re all one big team!”
            Michael turned away and said, “That’s what my friends had a hard time understanding.”
            Tony’s fists were shaking. “Do you think that will stop? If that was true, then why hasn’t your friend group from last year help you at all against my own Potrero group?!” He made the shadow appear once more. It flew towards Matt.
            Matt used his Fire Shield again. Nix screamed, “Matt! The shadow is too strong!” Matt was being pushed back a few feet and then eventually, the Fire Shield wore off and he was pushed on his back. He barely had energy to continue casting the Fire Shield! Matt was rolling away from the field, nearing the edge of the highway.
            “Matt!” Alice yelped.
            “Agh!” Matt held onto the ledges. “It’s not over yet!” Nix flew towards Matt to help get him up from the ledge but Tony made a shadow push Nix away. Nix flew against Alice’s arms.
            “Gotcha!” Alice caught Nix. “Are you okay?”
            “Yeah, but…” Nix watched Matt.
            Tony stood right above Matt. “Pitiful. This is just too sad.” Matt held tightly on the highway. He was high up from the Wisterian floor. “Your words were heartwarming, but not strong enough. You see, you may have the heart, but you lack the strength.” Tony stomped onto Matt’s right hand which was the only hand that was keeping him on the ledge.
            “DAHH!” Matt groaned out loud. Tony stomped again. Matt led out a short yelp after each stop. “Agh! Being powerful doesn’t always have to do with strength! ARGH!” Tony continued to stomp on Matt’s hand. “It also has to do with the will to continue! I… won’t give up! I promised to save Wisteria!!!” Matt’s left hand was shaking, but he was still able to use it to grip onto the ledge.
            Instead of stomping, Tony decided to kick Matt’s hands so that they would slip off. “Nobody needs enlightenment. Fall!!”
            Matt’s hands slipped off the ledge! Everything in his mind went blank and the whole area around him turned blank. Death was coming in less than a few seconds. He closed his eyes. “I…”
            “Matt!” Yessenia held onto him on the Wisterian floor. “Do not even think about closing your eyes. That is just a lousy sign for giving up!”
            Matt opened his eyes right away. “Y-Yessenia!”
            “We are friends! Our bonds will only make us stronger, not weaker. If anything, I will take care of Tony. You should get a few minutes’ rest.” She stood up.
            Omar stopped her. “But Tony is extremely strong. How are you going to do this alone?!” He said while grabbing onto his left arm in pain.
            “I can at least try!” Yessenia ran towards the highway entrance.
 ~~~
            Tony was about to fly down with the power of his shadow aura but a girl grabbed his sleeves. “Tony, don’t fight anymore, please!” Jenny said with a blushed expression.
            Tony did not want to attack her. He knew she was the kind of girl who would never get attacked because many people loved her as a person. “Tch! Get away from me.”
            “But…!”
            Amy interrupted them. “Tony! Even your own comrades are against what you are doing. Look at how many people are challenging you, one after another!”
            Jenny clamped her hands together. “Please?”
            Tony took a few steps away. “I don’t believe this.” He said angrily, “Nobody understands me, or what? Jaime! Come on!” Tony began creating a large aura of shadow once more. “I’m tired of all this opposition! You should all just stop with the bickering!”
Jenny covered her face with her hands. “It’s too windy!”
            “Ah!” Amy fell backwards. She tried to create a large beanstalk to support her but there were no plants on the highway. “Wisteria’s soil should be enough! Come on, Beanstalks!” Large plants rose from the ground near Omar and Matt, along with William, Shirley, and Huy.
            Shirley held onto her pole weapon. “The battle’s not over. These beanstalks should be our invitation to reach the top of the highway!”
            Matt began crawling onto the beanstalk. Omar said to him, “Are you crazy? You can barely even use any more energy.”
            “A fight’s a fight. We have to stop him. It was my promise to save Wisteria, no matter what it takes!”
            “Not if it costs you your life!”
            “It won’t!!” Matt insisted.
            “Ergh…” Omar had nothing else to say after how many times Matt did not listen.
 ~~~
            Tony made monsters, shadow ninjas, and many dark slimes appear all at once. It was basically a battlefield on the highway. “Be gone!”
            Shirl was standing behind one of the beanstalks that Amy made. She asked herself, “Um… should I do something? I don’t know anymore… Uh…” She was completely confused.
            Shirley used the angle of the beanstalk to run towards the highway. She turned her head and said to Huy, “Come on! Let’s go! William, are you going too?”
            Huy followed and William said in shame, “I don’t know if I should…”
            “That’s fine.” Shirley giggled. She suddenly said angrily, “Hurry up, Huy!!”
            “You adapt fast…” Huy rolled his eyes.
            Nix flew out of Alice’s hands. “I will fight too!” It spewed a small amount of fire.
            Alice laughed softly. “Eheh… Not that much…”
            After a long stare, Jaime decided to fight. “Peh!”
            “Finally, Jaime! It has been awhile!” Tony joked.
            “Whatever.” Jaime seemed indifferent about the situation. “Shadow Ball!” He created a dark ball of shadow in front of him so that nobody would get nearby.
            “Icicle Rain!” Shirley jumped up from the beanstalk in a surprise.
            “Spinning Boost!” Huy followed Shirley to attack a few more dark digicells.
            Amy made the beanstalk disappear since she could not do two plant spells at once. “Leaf Gale!” She made a spiky vine spin itself towards the dark slimes.
            Yessenia swung her long sword. “I am glad to see us all still fighting lively!” She slashed a few of the dark slimes along with the shadow ninjas. “Hrah! Hah! Gust Slash!!”
            Nix spewed a small flame on a dark slime. It began melting. “Yes! Even I’m useful!”
            Michael joined the group. “Have a taste of this scimitar!” Michael cut the rest of the dark slimes. Nobody bothered to take on Tony and Jaime yet since they were so far away.
            “Haha! Funny! I can still make more monsters appear.” Tony created more dark slimes and shadow ninjas.
            Matt glided up above Tony. “Haaaaaaaaahhhh!!!!” He flew down with tremendous speed.
            “What the?!” Tony quickly made a shadowed force appear above him.
            Matt punched the shadow and the ground below them vibrated. “It’s not over until I say it’s over…!”
            “How are you still up? You should have died in the fall earlier!”
            Matt was still pressed against the shadow. “With my friends, I know I’m not alone! Pain hurts less when you’ve got others behind your back!” The shadow was about to shatter. “You’re about to break!”
            Jaime made his own shadow punch Matt from the side. Matt suddenly stood and then he dropped to the floor. Tony began chuckling hysterically. “Heh… heheh… You almost forgot that Jaime was here. How reckless.”
            Matt punched the dirt floor. “Ergh! What the hell!”
            Tony pointed at the group, “Look at your friends. They can barely survive the amount of monsters that I summoned. They are fighting for their lives only to find out that they will eventually become tired and die on the spot.” Alex was nearby, watching them. He was too exhausted to move or say anything. Jaime said nothing at that. Tony opened his arms. “So Matt, it looks like you can be potentially strong. Why haven’t I noticed you as much as Yessenia or Omar before? You’re an interesting guy. Strong in elemental power, but not as high in academics as most others.”
            Matt said slowly, “Your theory on knowledge equaling elemental power… is totally jacked up!” Matt coughed.
            “Oh? What makes you think that?”
            “I’m only stronger than you think, because…” Matt yelled, “I care about my friends! I care about the whole city of Wisteria with my heart!!”
            This sparked Alex’s mind. He remembered when Matt did not even notice Alex’s face back at the concentration camp. He also remembered how Matt was so careless and reckless on searching for Jaime the more dangerous way. He could remember all of Matt’s ignorance, yet his words at the moment were the most contradicting.
            “I WANT TO SAVE WISTERIA!!” Matt said even louder. The voice echoed throughout Wisteria. Although, most people were already gone by now…
