Recently
on Fires of the sky, the El Monte students returned to Earth only to find it
still frozen. As they return to Arkon’s Magic, the six main students, Matt,
Yessenia, Jaime, Alex, Venus, and Winny all enter a bridge that leads them to
the Elemental Challenges! Without further delay, they were forced to attend as
the six members for the challenges, but are they ready? After finishing the
first match, the El Monte students find that they have humiliatingly lost
against all the other four schools. Even worse, one of the members of El Monte
seemed to have mysteriously run away with Benny, a member from Rosemead. Even
after the second, third, and fourth matches, El Monte placed last again! How
are they going to win now?
Episode 229 – 1,000 Enemies Versus a Team of Two
Colonel Artemis began to explain the
rules to Matt, “You and your friends are purposely going to be sent out at a
later time when all of the previous jailers lose first.”
Matt became frightened. “You’re…
making me go out there against all of those people?”
“No. You see, this is the fifth round. Look over there.” He
pointed at Johan and Layla. “Those two are from South El Monte. Since they are
in first place, they went first. Basically, in this battle, each school comes
out one by one and they constantly fight fodder prisoners. We calculated a
shared amount of prisoners and their strength in power and then disbursed them
equally to each school. The higher the numbers they defeat, the stronger the
enemies will get.”
Matt could see more jailers coming
from the other side of the hallways leading into the coliseum. “Where are my
friends then?!”
“They’ll come in, last.”
“What?!”
“Exactly. El Monte is placed in last
place as of now, but of course, you wouldn’t know that.” Matt could see a bunch
of prisoners come out at once, probably about twenty, and then after a while,
ten appeared, and then five. The men were getting much larger in appearance due
to their strength in ability and elemental power. “There is one thing I need to
mention to you. As every other prisoner should know by now, if one single
person decides to go against the fifth round for whatever reason, every
prisoner in his or her section will be sent to rot away at a blank space in
time.”
“Are you kidding me? What if someone
from my section decides to run away while I don’t?”
“You take their fault and you, along
with others in your section, will be sent into a world of nothingness.”
“Then what if we all do what you say
and succeed in participating in this damn battle?!”
“Here is the good news. Those who
defeat the students in the challenges, or have not gone to battle yet, will be
set free along with the same section who lost. If 1,000 enemies have been
defeated…” He pointed at the fallen prisoners who have been beaten by Johan and
Layla, “they will have to return to prison and wait another year to fight in
the Elemental Challenges. That is your incentive to do your best.”
Matt rolled his eyes. “(These rules…
such bullcrap!)”
On the telescreen above the
coliseum, Matt could see ‘999’ enemies defeated from Johan and Layla. One giant
monster appeared from the coliseum. “What the heck is that?! It’s almost three
times our size!”
“Some monsters possess enormous
power, but they have used it illegally in the Elemental Challenges.”
“I almost forgot that monsters could
be used as participants in these challenges…” Matt sighed.
Nix appeared from Matt’s soul. “And
now that your powers are back, I can help you in every way possible!”
“NIX! It’s so good to see you back!”
“You too. Hehe!” Nix began hugging
him.

Layla made parts of her hair appear
from under the ground. Johan shot the ground all around them in a whole circle
to create mines and barriers to protect them from the large monster. The
ogre-looking monster tried to smash the two students but the mines exploded on
him. Layla’s hair grabbed onto the ogre’s legs but the ogre easily kicked it
off.
Layla laughed. “That was my
intention.” Out of distraction, her other strand of hair was strong enough to
stab him over the shoulders while Johan shot the monster down. “Oh, I think I
have to wash my hair several times when I get back on Earth. What a shame.”
Johan continued to shoot the monster
down. “You call this the strongest monster? With our combined powers, we are
basically the powerhouses of the
whole challenge!”
“And just two people, we can already
make barriers, mines, and all kinds of protection without trouble.” The ogre
fell and the number count went up to 1,000. Layla raised her arms out to the
fallen prisoners, “You cannot stop us, for we are the eagles of South El
Monte!!!!”
Van and Maggie watched from back
stage. Maggie turned to Van, “Geez, none of those prisoners get to go back
home…”
Van began to cry. “That’s so
miserable and sad. I don’t wanna be like them!”
Jenny was worrying as well. “Jon was
sent to a different section to battle… I wonder what happened to Shirley and
Michael too?”
Maggie yawned. “Seeing these people
battle don’t really seem to be that threatening. We just have to give it our
all.”
Van tried to run away. “I don’t want
to fight-…”
Maggie grabbed her collar. “Hey,
don’t run! Look, we’re fighting with seventeen other people. It’s a good thing
they grouped us three together. The power of the trio-sisters will not fall!”
Van became silent. “But I… still…
it’s so scary out there. The only reason I was able to fight in the whole
Marconian Continent because it wasn’t as scary as this. I can’t even move!” Her
legs were shaking uncontrollably.
Maggie pouted. “Hmph! Come on, we
have to get over it and try our best. We’re risking our lives here.” Van did
not say another word after this.

Siyun and Sammy were the next to
battle against the prisoners in the coliseum. As it seems, each school can
battle a max of 1,000 enemies and South El Monte had reached their maximum
limit. The trio-sisters watched these two girls work together to battle each
prisoner. A hundred appeared at first.
Sammy placed two fingers on her
forehead and then she closed her eyes. Siyun stayed in one single position,
focusing her aura. Sammy then pointed her fingers outward to the hundred
enemies who were surrounding them. “I found the perfect spot, says my
prediction.” Siyun casted a Paralysis seal on the empty spot to the right and
over fifty of them were stuck. She then casted a Fumigating Cross that attacked
most of them. Sammy pointed at herself, “Now is a good time for the Adamantine
as well.”
“Got it.” Siyun casted Adamantine on
the two of them and then a few soldiers began to attack, but nothing happened.
Siyun threw knives at several of them and in no time, one hundred of them were
down. Another hundred appeared, but they were slightly stronger than before.
These men had long range attacks compared to the typical sword and other close
range weapons.
Matt was surprised. “Isn’t that
Siyun and Sammy?! They have become
super strong!”
A large dragon appeared from Siyun’s
summon and it blew powerful air that attacked every one of the prisoners in one
shot. After that, 80 prisoners appeared with basic powers that the previous
two-hundred were not able to have. Matt said to Colonel Artemis, “Hey, what
happens if all schools reach 1,000 monsters?”
“If it is a tie, then it will depend
on the time usage. South El Monte took 42 minutes to defeat 1,000 enemies. So
far, Rosemead is almost a quarter done in only six minutes. This is extremely
interesting.”
After several more minutes, Siyun
and Sammy defeated every enemy within 36 minutes. Sammy cheered for Siyun and
herself, “Yes! We did it within a shorter time period!”
Siyun shook her head. “Those monsters
got nothing on it. Get it? Because they didn’t even hurt us.” She said without
laughing.
Sammy
sighed. “Uh, yes. Your jokes are hilarious. Now we should take a break.”
“This
shall leave us at first place while South El Monte is bumped down to second.
Let us go rest, Sammy.” They both left the coliseum, proud of their
achievement.
Matt began feeling worried. “Another
thousand down…” He watched as Arroyo came up next. “Irene! She’s still in the
Challenges!”

Their match had begun and Irene had already
flashed towards the running prisoners. In one swipe, she attacked them all with
a gust. Sith did not have enough time to attack. The soldiers fell and a
hundred more came in. Matt was amazed. “She took down all one hundred of them
in just one second!”
Another hundred appeared and Irene
said to Sith, “Do not feel alarmed. I have this.” She casted a large field of
yellow which paralyzed them and then she poisoned them.
Sith stood in front of her, “And as
they are poisoned, I shall take care of the rest so you can save energy.”
“How noble.” Irene said as she took
a step back. “That is a wise plan.”
Sith slashed the second hundred
within a minute. Maggie took a step back, “I… don’t think this will be pretty.
Aren’t they… in our section?” She turned around, “Van, it’s all good. We don’t
have to worry, right?” Nobody was behind her. “Van?”
A prisoner from behind pointed
behind him, “She said she had to go to the bathroom.”
“Oh. Well, she better make it back
by the time it is our turn.”
After the next 80, Irene casted a
strange magic that caused the enemies to freeze. Sith stabbed each of them and
they shattered. Matt took a step back, “Ergh… did they just die into pieces?”
Colonel Artemis shrugged. “We have
higher officials who can reverse any death effects at the end of the battle.”
“Their elemental power is that high
huh.” Matt said slowly. “(How powerful are these ‘high officials’ anyway?)”

“959 enemies?!” Maggie yelped. “They
finished that much in only 12 minutes!!!”
Jenny covered her mouth by
astonishment. “Oh my… now that is an extremely powerful group. That makes me
wonder why they are in third place.”
“How can you be so calm? What if
they easily reach 1,000 enemies?! We’ll be stuck here for another year!”
The lights above them flashed which
indicated that they are next to battle. Maggie turned around, “Van, Van where
are you?!” The prisoners began to rush out. “Oh crap. Van!” They were pushing
her and Jenny outward.
Irene casted a type of magic that
sealed all of the enemies’ powers, but Maggie, Jenny, and a few other prisoners
jumped away. Jenny was still in her normal form. She could not turn into her
demonic form unless she was angry. Maggie tried to throw webs at Irene. “Take
this!” Irene slashed the webs away even if they were extremely thick.
Sith jumped from above and then he
tried to stab Jenny. Jenny could only dodge and Sith slashed her sleeves.
Maggie tried to cast her web on Sith to stop him, but Irene kicked her down
without difficulty.
Maggie gasped. “Jenny! Jenny!!!”
Jenny became frustrated. “Stop it!
Please!” A dark aura appeared around her. The other prisoners were already
down. Jenny was the last to stand. She turned into a demonic form in which her
horns have grown out and she also grew a tail. Her eyes became darker as if she
had eyeliner and her eyes turned red. Talons have grown from her fingers.
Sith took a step back.
“Interesting.”
“Step back.” Irene walked in front
of Sith. She unsheathed her sword which was bright yellow. She quickly stabbed
Jenny but Jenny was even faster. She jumped up and then she blasted the ground
with a dark shadow ball. Irene slashed the ball away with a Dispel attack. Sith
flew towards Jenny and then Jenny had to fly down. Her wings were slightly
severed by Irene’s Dispel. “Behold, the power of Status Ailment.”
Maggie coughed. “S-Status Ailment?
That’s your power?”
Matt was surprised. “I can’t believe
it… They’re going to lose and get sent back to the Elemental Nullos!” He also
noticed that Van was missing.
Irene threw another dark ball at
Sith and it exploded on him. He fell to the ground, but his skin was
rejuvenating. Maggie covered her eyes. “What the heck is that?!”
Sith flew back up to distract Jenny
while Irene slashed her from behind. Jenny fell to the ground, feeling pain.
“Augh! No… I…” Jenny turned back to her normal form. The next ten prisoners
appeared from backstage.
Maggie sighed. “We… lost.”
It took a few more moments for Irene
and Sith to defeat the next enemies. Everyone watched as Arroyo’s enemy count
became 979 then 980, and then 981… Several minutes have gone by and they
reached number 998. One large enemy appeared from backstage.
“What?!” Colonel Artemis was shocked
at this view.
“What is it?” Matt asked.
“One monster left, but only 998
enemies…” Colonel Artemis began to whisper to the soldiers beside him.
The soldiers saluted him. “Got it! I
will inform the high officials immediately.” One of them said as he ran away.
Sith was pushed back and he was
losing energy to battle after spending much of it against Jenny and the last
few enemies after her. Irene almost had trouble with the large monster who did
not give her time to attack even with her amazing speed.
Irene quickly got back up and then
she tried to poison the monster. Again, the giant slime shrugged it off. “I
will have to use common sense and try even harder now.” She made her weapon
turn red. “Nobody ever gets in my way!” She slashed the slime and it began to
burn. This time, the slime was not able to shrug it off. Irene began to weaken
the monster by burning it. Eventually, the slime fainted and the screen showed
‘999’. “Who is missing?!” She called out.

Matt:
On the next episode of Fires of the Sky…
Van:
I don’t wanna fight out there. It’s too scary!
Maggie: Their
number count is at 999. You have to appear, NOW! Or else, it will be too late!
Matt:
Maggie and Jenny are out there. If the number count stays at 999, they will be
sent to the Eternal Nothingness!
Colonel Artemis: That is the basic rule to this match.
Matt:
Can’t you change it?! They didn’t do anything wrong!
Colonel Artemis: I am not the one who makes the rules.
Irene: If anybody gets in my way again,
they will be killed by my own hands.
Emmy: Shirley and I get to fight
together! This is gonna be good!
Shirley: Here we go!
Venus: My final battle against Johnny ends
here. I will be the one to take
closure between the two of us!
Matt:
Venus and I will join together to fight against Johnny! I think she should take
on the battle alone though. Next time on episode 230, When One Person Goes
Missing, Venus Versus Johnny!!
Venus:
I will also take back what’s mine!!
